500-mile upgrade conversion options?

Here's a crazy question. I wonder if I could convince AA to postpone my upgrades until next year? By the time they convert them, I will be well past 200,000 loyalty points and so the added points from conversion are of no value to me at all. However, it would be great to have them next year as a nice head start.

They still have value in increasing your priority on the upgrade list.

I had 8 paid 500 mile upgrade certificates (and a lot "earned").
Here is is what I got back as options:

A. 2,000 Loyalty Points (250 Loyalty Points x 8 purchased 500-mile upgrades)
B. 40,000 AAdvantage? bonus miles(5,000 bonus miles x 8 purchased 500-mile upgrades)
C. Travel Voucher of $240 (the paid amount associated with your 8 purchased 500-mile upgrades)
D. Refund of $240 to the original form of payment or check depending on when your upgrades were purchased

Guess which option I picked?

best "value" would be the 40k RDMs (.02 $/mile = $800 in value), but I wouldn't blame you for just taking a cash refund.

Wife already spent it on a flight, ugh.

Technically you are correct. In my case, I maintain they are of no value because I buy first class except for relatively short flights (under 2 hours) and because when I do fly coach I rarely get upgraded. EXP doesn't mean much flying out of DFW.

It sounds as if there's no useful option for "earned" e500s or am I missing something?

You’ll get your 250 LPs each, but not any of the other refund options that are reserved for paid e500’s

Thanks mrtrickdk for sharing your experience.
Did you contact reservations or AAdvantage or some other AA number?
I assumed you called them and then they responded to you with the options you shared?

I called in and spoke with AAdvantage customer service. They said they'd open a request and respond back via email "in a few days". They did respond, via email, a week+ later.

It took them a little while to get back to me, but I was offered the same options essentially. I took 5000 miles per sticker. A whopping 400k. Thanks AA.
