Domestic 3-class F has gone downhill in 2022 (consolidated)

I am a regular flyer JFK-LAX and have been very disappointed recently. The seats are getting very worn and my flight 2 weeks ago there was a 6” gap when the seat was flat , almost impossible to sleep. This evening I open my pillow and it’s wet and all stained totally disgusting. The FA looked for an extra but of course non available so certainly not a great sleep without one for 6 hrs on a late night flight.
AA Twitter says so sorry we will report it but that’s all , not even sure if it’s worth emailing customer service anymore they never seem to respond as of late
here is a pic of my pillow

Nice stained and somehow moist / wet pillow

Yes, report it to customer service. They'll throw miles your way for just about anything substantive (and perhaps even outlandish claims). That pillow is disgusting. I hope it was properly disposed of...t looks like it could have the next variant.

Secret for the cushion issue: the bottom cushion is just Velcroed on. I believe those cushions are fully removed fairly frequently for cleaning, and when they are replaced they aren't jammed as far back as they should be, leading the Gap to when the seat is reclined.

When that happens, I reclined my seat, on velcro the bottom cushion, shifted into place, and the Gap is gone. Granted, that shouldn't be necessary, but it's an easy fix if you know how.

As for the cushion, gross! You should definitely be compensated for that. I think it happens when the pillows and/or pillow cases aren't fully dried before being sealed, leading to mold. Happened to me once before, but not nearly that bad!

Transcon F has always been a marginal at best upgrade over J. The gap has narrowed even further since COVID.

Personally, a giant waste of money or an upgrade instrument.

Pillow disgusting and your complaint seems very valid. Regarding emailing customer service though they always replied to me within 3 days when I was a lowly Gold and now at ExPlat they seem to reply within hours based on… well the one or two emails I’ve sent since. So it’s more than worth a try. If they still aren’t replying maybe you complained too much (though I wouldn’t fault you I have also had plenty of flights where I had to look past something that I really probably shouldn’t have had to do…) 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ve been upgraded twice Y-F on full transcon as EXP in the last 6 months and while I’m grateful… it’s laughably bad how that product is. Dirty seats, crap food and inattentive service (at best).

Compared to JetBlue Mint, especially one of the suites it’s a very very wide gap (wider than those in the seats!!)

That pillow though… unreal

So you're claiming that you've been given double upgrades from Y right past J to F on 3-cabin transcons?

That's remarkable if so, because I'm pretty sure AA has had a very strict policy of not doing that for >30 years now.

Please do report to customer service . If for no other reason to advise them of cabin defects . If we don’t email , then they might assume all is well . The only way to possibly get things fixed is to send emails . The pillow is absolutely repulsive.

yes - has happened twice, last year July and February this year. Have a search, I posted a thread about it back in July and also recall someone else posting about the same thing in the last 3 months. Both were operational upgrades moving me from a confirmed J upgrade at the gate.

Happened to me before a couple of times. Given the regular threads about upgrade shenanigans, empty seats in F etc, it's not that crazy that out of policy things happen like this.

some time ago , my clothes could come out of the washing machine with similar stains. Somehow, grease or oil from the machine was leaking nto the washing tub.
I Had to replace the washing machine.

Hard to tell from the OPs pic what the stains are.. very unlikely it is mold.
