5/26 MCO to PHL NO PDB, single pass with drink and snack basket and then the FA hid behind the curtain.

5/27 AA 1333 AUS-DFW
First PDB of the year and even got a refill from the DFW-based crew. I was so surprised I broke out the certificates.

5/27 AA 1322 DFW-DEN
Back to normal. Despite a 30 minute delay (after the door was closed) to load bags, the FA stayed in the jump seat and on her phone. One pass with drinks and the sad snack basket, then back into the jump seat and on the phone until coming through to collect trash.

1st June AA 4556 YYZ -BOS No PDB

Nor apparently will there ever be. We were 4 on a Republic (?) E170. I heard the FA say when asked if he wanted more ice that he couldn’t tell. I asked whether he’d be doing them and he said that he was not allowed to. The bar seals were not to be opened on the ground. From my BA days, I understood immediately. The minute they , if Customs came aboard and found it unsealed, would order the airline to pay, or dump the entire stock. He said that there was a FA who forgot and everything went down the galley sink.

I recite this anecdote as this was a “Can’t do”, rather than a “Shan’t ! Won’t! Do” situation. Aloft despite the somewhat turbulent flight!, Miguel, bless him, kept our glasses full and torpedoed this nonsense about two drinks only in F.

I find on morning flights I get a PDB but almost never on afternoon / evening. Frustrating when we sit at the gate for a bit and the F/As are standing around doing nothing. I think AA's focus on D0 (departing on time rather than arriving on time) hinders crew interest in PDBs as they tend to focus more on boarding (but again, usually one F/A helping while the others stand around). I had some very lazy and inefficient crews this week after having quite good crews for a while. I mostly fly out of DCA and DFW.

Full PDB on this morning's SFO-MIA, as seen and heard from our MCE seats.

6/2 PHX-LGB -- American Eagle (Mesa) -- Full PDB's offered (including coffee) -- Few takers, likely because it was a CRJ 900, doesn't take too long to board. Great service on a short flight.

4 June: JFK-SFO AA76. No PDB in J and a decidedly sub-par J crew.
