But yeah... if you cannot know whether a limited time promo (such as a higher earning rate from an eShopping merchant) counts as LP or not, people will give up pretty quickly...

How can we validate anything right now? The problem with them not displaying Loyalty Points is we have no way to know how many we're earning ... for example ...
Who knows? The official language is that you get 1 LP per 'base mile'. There still is not official word that Bask Bank is excluded, one interpretation hinges on the word 'spending' in the FAQ that says 'All base miles earned from spending with partners, such as AAdvantage® Dining, SimplyMiles™, and more', but I don't buy that interpretation, does that mean Miles for Opinions don't count too then? How about Realty Rewards if you're selling a home? I guess you're still technically 'paying' for that.
Is it really too much to ask for AA to simply publish a list of partners that earn Loyalty Points and how many Loyalty Points you'll earn for transactions from those partners?

- Platforms: AAdvantage Dining, AAdvantage eShopping, SimplyMiles
- Hotels: bookaahotels.com, Hyatt, Marriott, IHG, Marriott Vacations, RocketMiles (this includes miles earned with the American & Hyatt partnership)
- Cars: aa.com/car, Avis, Budget, Payless, Hertz, Dollars, Thrifty, Alamo, National, Sixt
- Cruises & vacation packages: bookaacruises.com, aavacations.com
- Retailers: Shell, WeWork, Vinesse, FTD, Vivid Seats, NRG Energy, Reliant Energy, Xoom, Miles for Opinion

They also clarify that miles transferred from Marriott won't count as LP (not sure if that's a new clarification tbh but I did just notice it), only miles earned during stays if you credit to AA instead of earning Marriott points. FWIW at this point, I'm inclined to believe that if the shopping site says you earn 10x miles for buying X from retailer Y, you'll earn 10x LP. I don't really see how any other interpretation of what they've said will happen as well as what currently happens would make sense (e.g., currently if you earn 100 miles from spending $10 on a 10x purchase, you'll see 100 miles in the "Base Miles" column of your AA account).

They've confirmed to multiple bloggers (specifically, TPG and OMAAT, off the top of my head) that Bask Bank is excluded. While neither is exactly a bastion of amazing journalism, I'm inclined to believe them. FWIW, both those blogs just put up the same lists of specifically what does count as LP:
- Platforms: AAdvantage Dining, AAdvantage eShopping, SimplyMiles
- Hotels: bookaahotels.com, Hyatt, Marriott, IHG, Marriott Vacations, RocketMiles (this includes miles earned with the American & Hyatt partnership)
- Cars: aa.com/car, Avis, Budget, Payless, Hertz, Dollars, Thrifty, Alamo, National, Sixt
- Cruises & vacation packages: bookaacruises.com, aavacations.com
- Retailers: Shell, WeWork, Vinesse, FTD, Vivid Seats, NRG Energy, Reliant Energy, Xoom, Miles for Opinion
OMAAT's list includes the note for hotels that adds "(this includes miles earned with the American & Hyatt partnership)", but I believe all those partnership miles are bonus miles and not base miles (e.g., the 1 AA mile per dollar spent at Hyatt), beyond the standard base miles anyone can earn for a Hyatt stay by crediting to AA (which typically would be a very poor value relative to earning Hyatt points, even with the addition of Loyalty Points to the equation (500 base miles per stay)).

What a world we live in where we get 20-25 LP per $ for buying flowers on FTD but only 5-11LP for actually flying AA. In true spirit, I just bought a bonsai tree and got 1,575 LP.

The links to this program on AA currently all seem to be dead ends, on the Hyatt site it says:

So VFTW says ...

So those bonus miles earn LP? Or maybe the Hyatt website is wrong, a little odd the AA website doesn't seem to have information on this program anymore. Can anyone comment if those miles currently post as base or bonus on AA (I don't earn them currently since I'm not elite with AA)?

Was about to start a thread over the same topic. It makes sense that I would launch in March, as currently it’s the “double dip” period. I suspect they want to analyze the data before officially launching. I’d be quite surprised if caps and limits didn’t creep out - especially with the AA shopping portal and dining program. You can practically hit platinum trying out all the wine of the month programs

Is it? Because we were already earning a lot more AAdvantage miles by shopping at FTD than buying a same-priced ticket for travel on AA.

I had my first 2022 purchase via the eShopping portal post to my account (a store that was earning 3X), and all miles earned posted as Base miles. Hopefully that is a good sign and there won't be any further breakdown of 1X base dollars spent and 2X bonus.

I need to track how many LP I'm earning for FY23 qualification.
Don't care at the moment about all the other ways to earn LP, I want to see them calculate my flights.
I'm making decision on flights, but I guess I need to create my own spreadsheet and hope I figure it out correctly.

As long as they can keep you buying from partners at an effective rate of $.04 - $.05 / mile, they can keep selling those partners miles at $.015 - $.025 / mile. Selling miles is a high margin activity for them.

I wonder how many subscriptions you can have? Can you gift to someone while collecting miles and LP for yourself?
Maybe this is the sweet spot vs bonsai trees, at just over a penny each? Happy AA eshopping!
Edit: Motley Fool is back down to 3700 miles/LP for $99....perhaps check it occasionally.
