AA cancelled the first flight on my itinineray (JFK - MIA - CTG and back, Basic Economy), which would have started on Friday morning. Rebooking is offered for Saturday, but I'd rather cancel the whole ticket and get a refund (which I should be eligible for as AA cancelled the flight). The booking was made on aa.com.

When I check the reservation on aa.com, the only options I get are either to choose the suggested rerouting or to choose an alternative (both of which would arrive 24h later than my original arrival). Is there a way I could cancel the ticket online? If I try queueing to the reservations number, I won't probably get called back before the flight would depart

You should be able to just pull up your reservation at aa.com and cancel it. There is a "Cancel Trip" link at the top of the page any time you pull up a reservation.

Once you do that, you can go online to http://prefunds.aa.com and request a refund. In the comments box just put something like "flight cancelled due to crew availability" or mechanical problems or whatever the official reason is.

ETA: looks like all of this morning's JFK-MIA flights are cancelled due to weather.

Hi all -- two quick questions for my AA flight tonight.

I'm booked on the AA service from JFK to Barcelona tonight (AA66) but wasn't able to check in online -- it told me to check in with an agent at the airport. I assume this is because of COVID documentation checks (I'll have my proof of vaccination and completed SpTH QR code, of course, as well as a green check in Verifly) but should I otherwise be alarmed?

Secondly I am booked in Premium Economy -- is there a priority check in line at JFK T8? I've flown out of T8 many times but this is my first time not on an economy ticket.

Thank you!

Thanks, JJeffrey !

The "cancel trip" button was there earlier, but once one the flights got cancelled, looking up the reservation on aa.com started showing a page that required me to pick alternative flights.

I ended up going to the airport (I was staying at the Hilton JFK) and there an agent was quickly able to cancel all of the segments, after which I made a refund request online.

1) No, perfectly normal to not be able to check in online for an int'l trip like this. I've taken 4 trips now back and forth to Europe in past 6 months and OLCI has never worked. Even pre-covid I found that OLCI only worked maybe 50% of the time for whatever the reason.

2) Yes, there are numerous priority check-in lines at JFK T8.

I have AA co-branded card and book a trip that is code-shared with Jetblue (operated by jetblue). Does this still give me free checked bag? And how I get that? Checked in with American Airline App?

The AA credit card gives you the first checked bag free only on domestic flights operated by AA. The AA card gets you no free baggage on flights operated by other carriers.

No, that's quite promising if the flight is in the near future.

By the ExpertFlyer's space indeed but then the actual flight's seatmap shows business class completely full except for two seats..

I rarely put much faith in seatmaps as primary indicators. Occupied seats on the seatmap are not necessarily all purchased seats.

What's the flight in question, is this a 3-class flight?

I will say it's somewhat strange to see a flight be J7 but have an almost full business cabin on the seatmap. But if it's 3-class AA will definitely oversell business, especially in the higher fare buckets, if there's room to roll some of those pax up to F.

Indeed, I figured that was it. It's AA900 (EZE-MIA) and had F5.
I ended up changing to AA908 and my SWU cleared a few hours later.
Thanks for the help!

I hope one of you good folks can help. I know there are other threads about getting refunds but this is one holy mess.

Optimistically last summer I booked a flight to London with miles. I live in Mexico. The flights were GDL-DFW-LHR in Business.
the return was LHR-Mexico City on BA. There lies the problem. I cancelled the flights not long after due to more Covid. I got the miles back on the AA portion but did not get the miles OR the 11,822 pesos ($580.00) back in the fees, etc. So I started calling the Mexico AA offices. As in the States, I have spent hours all told listening to recordings and when I get through the connection is so bad, I can’t hear them or vice versa. The last time a couple weeks ago I was told I would get the miles and cash back in 5-7 business days. I didn’t.

So I poked around the app and found where I could track refunds. The 11,822 pesos was deposited long ago in an AMEX card ending in 3005. My AMEX doesn’t end in those numbers & I only use MC with AA to get miles. Then I found their fax number. Printer is broken so I wrote it all out, took it to a mail place that faxes where they tried for a few hours only getting a report that it couldn’t go through because the machine is either busy, out of paper or turned off. 🤬

So what I need is the NAME and mailing address of someone at AA who can straighten out this holy mess and fix it. Thank you for reading this far and thanks for any assistance.
