AA/EY "On Request" Expired

I called the Australian AA line to book an EY award from MLE-AUH-JFK. Placed on a five-day hold. Called the US number the following day to complete payment. It showed "on request" for three more days. Miles weren't deducted and my card wasn't charged. Via chat, the reps confirmed it was in the queue as recently as this morning. Then, this afternoon (the end of the 5-day initial hold), it was cancelled with no notification. I was able to call back Australia and re-book, this time no hold, just paying on the phone with them. New booking again shows "on request. That was an hour ago, again no charge, no mileage deduction yet.

Did I do something wrong? Can I prevent it from happening again?

With quite a bit of time between now and then, I'd definitely wait and see if pricing gets better.
sounds good, I'll definitely wait out a bit and book when F fares look more average. thank you!

Noob question here: I have 2 EU-USA AA flights in Premium Economy in the next month and I need to understand what's the scheme that earns the most. I don't have any status with AA, but I have Qatar Gold, I have quite some Avios in the Iberia account and nothing in BA. Any suggestion? I wanted to try the AA status match challenge but since everything will change in the next few months I couldn't decide. Thanks a lot

For MCE, as I understand it, the upgrade does not come with any free checked bags--it is simply about getting added pitch and free wifi. Correct?
For Premium Economy, the difference appears to be 2x free checked bags, expedited check-in, and in-flight amenities--can I call in and upgrade? Can it be paid in miles or (very dusty) gift certificate or must it be credit card?

...and are the 777-200ER bulkheads (row 17 and exit row 26) as bad as Seatguru makes them out to be?

TIA
I ended up spending 19k miles total for MCE on 2 flights.

AAdvantage miles vs cash way off?

Hey folks. I've been using AA miles for some time and have usually found pretty good pricing - domestic around 1.2 cents per mile or so, if not better. I was looking to book PHL<->MSY 5/27 - 5/31 and have been stunned by how far off the cash and points fares are. (Nonstop roundtrip is 77k miles (~$900-$1000 value) vs $573 cash.

I know AA doesn't couple these tightly but I've not yet encountered a situation where the points fare is so much worse. Is this something I just have to swallow? Or do you believe if I wait it may fluctuate closer to the cash fare?

How to book award travel on Alaska Airlines using AA miles?

Hi there:

It would appear that Alaska is a partner of American. When I look for award availability, I cannot see the nonstop AS flight that I want, only American flights. Is this something I would have to book by calling an agent?

No. When aa.com is working correctly, only low-tier award seats on partners are available for booking with AAdvantage miles. Have you checked the AS website to check how many miles AS wants on the nonstop flight? Is that mileage rate the lowest redemption rate offered by AS on that route?

AS wants 30K for a one way TPA to SEA, so it is probably a higher redemption rate, although much lower than what AA wants for their connecting flights. I guess I will wait for fares to drop. My plan was to purchase using miles, then redeposit if a cash fare became less expensive.

Is departing from MCO an option? If so, have you checked redemption rates/cash fares from there?

Too far from us, I'm afraid. Living in Sarasota is great, but traveling from Sarasota to the ski slopes is not great!

You won't get a nonstop, but how are connections out of SRQ pricing with cash and with miles?

Hi! I have not flown AA for quite some time, so a bit confused about luggage check-thru rules. I have an upcoming crazy ticket: LIS-MAD-JFK-LAX (Arrival at LAX 9:33PM) conecting to LAX-JFK-GRU on the same PNR leaving the following day at 8AM, all in J/F.
Would my bags be checked all the way to Brazil (I know I will have to pick them up and recheck them at my entry point in the US - JFK), so my question is solely on the LAX overnight stay. I am not sure they would keep it (though it is less than 12 hours apart), because it is in different calendar days... THank you for the help

Yes AA will hold bags overnight as long as the connection is less than 12 hours. BUT, I think when you check in at LIS, your bags will only be able to be checked to LAX (due to the double pass through JFK), and I don't know that AA will let you recheck at LAX in the evening for a flight the next day.

Question:

Is lounge access granted for an international J class fare BUT you are requesting access at a domestic lounge (either your original departure airport or a stop PRIOR to your final domestic leg)? Example I am Flying DFW, CLT, MIA, QIO --All legs same date.

I know I am good in Miami but can i get it in Dallas and Charlotte as well.

Yes you have access to the lounge at all stops, not just the international departure point.
