Citi AAdvantage $125 discount and trip credit (consolidated)

Our situation. We bought 3 tickets today with a confirmable system wide upgrade at purchase (A rarity these days!). While ticketing, I mentioned to the res agent I had Citi flight discount coupons. She consulted with the ticketing desk, and said there was no way to apply the coupons - (which she was aware of the type of coupons since she asked if they started with 60064). on ticket with an upgrade instrument We will talk to AAdvantage customer service tomorrow to see if there is a workaround especially with a 24 hour to refund. I looked at the T/C's of the flight discount and it is pretty generic language so maybe it is a system limitation. Even though I am Platinum Pro (the upgrades were million miler upgrades not Explat) the ticketing was handled by EXP desk, with a great and helpful agent. We were transferred three times to get to the right agents for ticketing. It's 500 in coupons so it would be a nice offset to the tickets. It's the first trip we have booked since Feb 2020, so we want to be sure we aren't forgetting something. Our FF skills are a little rusty Any suggestions welcome.

Just wondering what would have happened IF you first paid with the Citi/AA $125 discount, THEN get the system wide upgrade...

That would probably work. I had trouble with a held BE booking asking for SWUs to be applied. The agent insisted it had to be a full economy (as opposed to basic economy) before it could be ticketed. So I pulled the plug on that conversation, went ahead and bought the BE ticket, and then phoned to apply SWUs once the booking was ticketed. No problem, just the slightly anxious wait that availability might have gone in the 10 minutes or so between paying for the ticket and getting through to a person.

Reporting back. Called the next day, and was able to have the ticket re-issued with SWU intact. I think it is as the other posters noted, you must do things in a certain order. Once the ticket was issued, I think they can "hold" the SWU while re-issuing Took over an hour with several agents, but I was impressed with both calls in the "can do" attitude of the agents and the I will solve your issue.. have not heard that in a while. Trip is in November, now just hopeful that we will be able to travel.

Citi $125 Flight Discount

Anyone have experience with these? Especially regarding the expiration... I have a coupon that expires on 11/30/2021. Does that mean I need to travel by then, or just book a flight and apply the credit by then? So can I book a flight for January, but still use the credit, as long as I book before the expiration? The only language in the fine print is: "The Flight Discount expires one year from date of issue of the certificate."

Just book a flight, travel can be about 330 days after booking

I have a Citi $125 certificate that nominally expired on 10/31/21. But on 06/17/21 I received an email from the Aadvantage program that, in part, stated "Our records indicate that you earned a Flight Discount certificate with an expiration date between 6/30/21 and 12/31/21. If you have not already redeemed this certificate, you will receive a 6 month extension from the current date of expiration for redemption.".
Check your emails (if you keep them that long) for a similar email. I assume this was a universal expiration extension.

Citi AAdvantage $125 discount and trip credit

Called AA to use both on a reservation on hold and was told I can only use either or. Agent offered to split tickets but then my non-elite family members would lose benefits such as sitting together in preferred/mce seats. I can apply the discount if I book online but the trip credit only appears if I book my own ticket, not more than one. May try and call back to see if I get a more knowledgeable agent but just want to find out if this agent is correct. Thanks.

I believe others have reported that this is indeed correct. If you search the forums, I think you'll find the thread(s) in question.

I suggest booking two one-way tickets - provides more flexibility for redoing one direction.
But:
1. Book your tickets online for all passengers in same reservation and put ticket on hold.
2. Call to have Flight credit or trip credit applied for each passenger.

Update: I when through a booking I had with two passengers - each with a flight credit from the same reservation and it looks like you can rebook both people to a new reservation and ticket the same two people. But doesn't appear to allow for adding trip credits.

3. There will be a separate email for each passengers ticket but they will all have the same Record Locator - and you can book all in your seating preference.

Note - the two types of credits. Both show in your account - wallet.

Flight credit is a ticket refund, using the original ticket number as an exchange for the new ticket. If ticket is cheaper, then you get a trip credit for the difference.
I believe you can only use one Flight credit for a new ticket. But you can apply trip credits to cover the increase.

Trip credit is surplus amount from a rebooked ticket. You can apply multiple trip credits to a ticket.

Not sure what you meant by $125 discount?
Master card is offering a $50 discount for booking using a master card after you register and get a code.
But I don't think you can use can use that discount code with trip credits.

The OP is referring to this Citi card benefit:

Earn a $125 American Airlines Flight Discount after you spend $20,000 or more in purchases during your cardmembership year and renew your card

Is that a targeted benefit? I have not seen this benefit for the Citi Exec card and I exceed $40K spend per year for the extra EQM.
