AA 1005 flight hits, breaks off light pole at DFW 29 May 2021

American Flight 1005 departing for Bahamas hit and broke light pole while taxiing, damaging a wing tip. The aircraft was towed back to the gate. An AA spokesman said there were no injuries on board and that passengers would be transferred to another aircraft. (synopsis)

Not good. I wonder how much damage was done to the wing.

Wack. Wonder if they followed the wrong or an old taxiway marking.

That aircraft was waaay off the line.

I'm sure AA will blame that on weather and refuse vouchers.

Ahh, that makes more sense. I figured it looked weirdly reckless.

I found a few tweets of pax on that flight with colorful language over AAs $15 food voucher where a replacement aircraft eventually was found ultimately made it to NAS around 1:20am for a total delay of 8 hrs 20 minutes.

Given the circumstances, I would have thought AA Ops actually would have given a damn.

Even cars can determine if there is something you might hit on the side.

I'd like to know what went through the pilot's head once he looked back and saw a 20 foot light pole come crashing to the ground. Brush up on his CV?

Do you think the entire wing will need to be replaced?

It looks to me like the captain was mistakenly following the taxiway edge marker line and not the actual taxi line.

I mean, it's less bad than their colleagues who decided to play runway sign polo with the left wing of an A321T at JFK.

This video would work very well as a subject for one of those WN Wanna get away? commercials.
