Finally passed 12k EQD for the year. Still need about 7k EQM. I can probably hit that by the end of the year, but since my EXP status has been extended, and because of the “double-dip” option, I have no reason to stress over it. I can finish out in January.

The best strategy is to wait until as close to the award choice expiration date as possible to determine which will be best for you at the time.

I have something 5 or 6 award choices to make currently, but I’ve held off, because while SWUs are potentially the highest value choice, that’s obviously not the case if you can’t find routes where they can be used.

For an award I have that is expiring 12/31/2021, I’m fairly certain I’ll be taking the miles (40k if I recall correctly), rather than the SWUs.

2022 Requalification happened by many methods this year, first threshold back in September
My 17th year as EXP IIRC and 13th in a row.

Anyhow, last flight of the year is tomorrow, so some final stats:

e500 Upgrade Percentage* 90% (19-2)
*excludes 11 segments where e500s not applicable (paid F, other instruments, JetBlue codeshares)

EQ Dollars 8358
EQ Miles 62,739
EQ Segments 40 (includes 8 rollover segments)

Was about 60% on UG this year (so far) as EXP. Requalified earlier in the year, could be better

Sooo close

I fly 4 segments a week. After my last flight this weekend, for the year, I will be 1 segment short of ExP.
When I fly 2 segments on Jan 2, will I be automatically recognized as ExP, to change my spot on the upgrade list?

I'm really close to the 80,000 mile mark, but can't figure out why the bonus miles change from week to week. (I fly the same route each week)

So excited!

Made it Dec 11.
EQD: 12,092
EQM: 110,638
EQS: 51
But have 2 more segments with 2,500 EQM and some extra EQD by years end.
By Jan 9, will exceed 120,000 EQM for threshold bonus.

Had to buy F for about 40% of my flights to get the EQD. No international flights this year.
Not sure how you can spend enough enough without buying F. Unless you are doing distance based on Partners.
Some of my segments are $49 one way fares to FL, with only $32 EQD.

Figured it was worth the investment to push to EXP - with the new LP system.
Sorry I did not spend $2500 more in 2019 to get EXP - then I would have been carried over all the way.
Plat Pro just doesn't cut it for upgrades.
Even after earning EXP - my last flight I was # 5 on upgrade list as EXP.
Won't have a problem getting EXP with the new LP system.

Mrs Vernon and I just got our new EXP tags, having completed a EXP challenge from Sept 1-Nov 30.
We had reverted to Platinum for a couple years and, with much travel scheduled for the fall, I called AA and eventually was offered the 28,000 EQM/$4,000 EQD challenge to be completed in three months. Hitting those was not a problem and we are now back in the EXP ranks through 1/23.
