It’s not. I would’ve preferred something similar to what United did yesterday. They reduced the price of their awards for a day.

This is the problem when airlines value their product unrealistically. They sell miles at unrealistic prices, charge more than the miles are worth just to transfer earned miles to other people, and then when they offer promos like this they think it's costing then real money but customers see it as < $5 value.

Some of it may originate with the airlines considering the full flex fares as their "real" price and the fares most people pay as "discounted" prices. But real people look at the cheapest price available and that's the real price.

Remember, this is only for AA credit card holders.

And the same AA credit holders until a few years ago used to get 10% back on all award redemptions.

Why didn't they bring back at least 5%, or 2%, or 1% back on all award redemptions (say, for the rest of the year) if they didn't want make themselves look super-stingy.

But this is so stingy compared to what they took away a few years ago, it's just annoying.

Seriously. 400 miles? That's essentially worthless.

This is one of those promos that would have been better off not existing.

All they're doing is creating ill-will, the exact opposite of what a promotion is supposed to do.

I'd argue that the spin the globe thing had the same effect.

Buy a plane ticket and get a pack of gum back as a thank you - uh. No thanks

At first I thought the 400 miles was a typo. Insulting.

I have to look back at my records, but I think I was paying less than 5000 miles to get between LA and NY during this time last year. If that sort of pricing still exists, then sure... I’ll redeem. Short of that, there are better uses for one’s miles as the world re-opens.
