American Airlines has just updated its summer schedule, which includes a series of new/additional widebody flights. Thought I'd make a thread to keep track of the domestic routes with widebodies. All of these are effective early June 2021 unless otherwise specified. I placed an asterisk next to the more notable flights.

It appears that this flight returns to PHL. AFAIK it flies PHL-LAS leaving at 7PM and arriving at 9PM, and returns as a red-eye at 11PM arriving 7AM.

Geez, good time to be based in MIA. I wish they shared the love more with other hubs.

The 773 adds are interesting. Usually pretty easy to upgrade as an EXP.

Charlotte (HNL) to Honolulu (HNL):
- 1x daily Boeing 777-200ER

I'll be curious if this route is operated by two 772
aircraft, otherwise a sub one-hour turnaround time is quite the turn-and-burn for this wide-body.

I saw ORD-PHX on 787 only in June but not July or August

That's so cool. Love traveling on their best products. I've notice the pricing for these flights is over the roof. LAX-ORD in economy in June on a weekday was pricing at over $1500 vs $245 for a non widebody. CRAZY

It really varies a lot, just luck of the draw. I just booked PHL-MCO on 788s both ways for 40-50% less than all the narrowbodies were selling for. In my case I am guessing because the switch to a larger plane opened up a lot of inventory they needed to sell.

2 whole widebodies a day for CLT. All we are is a dumping ground for non-Oasis LUS A321.

One interesting note, they are selling PE seats to Anchorage as actual PE (similar to Hawaii). I was hoping that the domestic "Book PE at a Y fare" trick would work on those routes as well, but alas AA is going for the revenue. I can't blame them, but it would have been nice.

Would have “Liked” your post but I agree and don’t

IME if they are not selling the flight as 3 classes, the pricing is the same as regular flights. I've been flying an A332 PHL-LAX-LAS (connection obviously not on a widebody) for years and the F fare has been the same as the nonstop PHL-LAS narrowbody F fare, except for an additional passenger facility charge. The same is true of the PHL-LAS B787 flights they just added are the same. However, the fares can vary a lot by day. When I was booking flights a month or two ago, the fare on this route varied from the $400's to $2427, depending on the day. Use ITA Matrix.

I'm not sure what exactly you're looking at but on Wednesday June 9, AA841 LAX-ORD is $95 in Y, (tied for) cheapest flight of the day. Seems to be $95 on Tu/We and $133 other days of the week.

Finally a MIA-LAS widebody.

dciolli Apr 20, 2021 1:38 pm

Here's what I've gathered for domestic widebody flights from LAX (using 7/1/21 as a data point):

LAX-MIA (5x 77W, 1x 772)
LAX-DFW (1x 789, 1x 77W, 1x 772)
LAX-ORD (1x 789)

LAX-JFK has now moved back to all 321T. Looks like the 1x daily widebody on LAX-PHL still hasn't returned to the schedule.

Have I missed any?

I agree it’s quick, but it isn’t that out of the ordinary for a domestic flight. Unlike an international I don’t believe any security check of the aircraft would be required in HNL so it’s just a matter of getting the people off, doing a quick tidying of the interior, and boarding again. 772s aren’t really all that big and with two aisles they can board every bit as quick as a 737/A321 if not faster.

The cargo is mostly all containerized on a 777 to my knowledge so that should offload/load pretty fast and then catering, lav service, etc. can all be done during boarding/deplaning.
