Domestic widebody a/c added, inc. PHX Gets 772 For OGG & HNL This Summer
Looks like Hawaii travel is going to be busy this summer, 1 of 2 flights per day to from PHX to OGG and HNL have been upgraded to a 772 from 06/03/21 - 08/16/21. I already had a reservation to OGG in late June so this is welcomed news.

I wonder if they will (have) increase(d) fares commensurately for fares booked after the equipment upgrade. A few months ago, fares were around $1300ish JFK-PHX-HNL round trip if you had booked a few months back. Not a bad snag if you thought you were getting a 321. We booked the JFK-LAX-HNL instead for flagship first, even though the service offering is not the same as it used to be.

This is great news.
Was able to cancel tickets for coming and going to OGG, connecting thru DFW. Rebooked via PHX on the widebody.
Saves me 140K miles overall and a red eye flight in-to DFW on the outbound.
I guess the only down side is less air time in the lie-flat on the 772, but to save enough miles for another trip I think we can manage.

It’s sure won’t be fun being at the back of a 777 waiting in line for the now mandatory 2nd covid test on arrival at OGG starting later this month
hopefully they will come to their senses and do away with it before the busy summer travel season

While I'll all for the current setup, I don't see the point of the pre-departure test if there is going to be test on arrival.

Headed to OGG in a few days; hopefully we get in before this crap.
