Arrow American and Alaska / AS earnings and elite benefits as of 31 Mar 2021

Though Alaska and American renewed their partnership April 1, 2020, Alaska became a full member of oneworld alliance today. There are changes to the AA - AS AAdvantage earnings as well as benefits for AA Elites flying Alaska. Link to AA page on AS.

AAdvantage® elite status member benefits

Travel on Alaska Airlines and eligible affiliate airlines counts toward qualifying for AAdvantage® elite status membership. AAdvantage® elite status members receive additional benefits when traveling on Alaska Airlines.

EXP flying on Alaska

EXP and have been looking at booking Alaska for travel in April. While the Alaska website labels some of its seats as being preferred and for “oneworld elites,” those seats can’t be assigned. Also, I seem to recall that “select” AA elites would be eligible to book into Premium Class (Alaska”s extra legroom section)—is that going to be considered an upgrade that’s processed close to departure or upon booking?

Alaska enters oneworld on Wednesday. Many of your questions should be answered then.

It's been mentioned in another thread that upgrades for AA elites on AS and vice versa won't start right away....3/31 is simply the official day AS becomes part of OW. Unless you have more faith in the IT than I do, my guess is that it will be a few months before things like premium seating and free baggage start automatically being applied to reservations so I wouldn't get my hopes up for any reservations in April.

So does that mean it will be extended to other tiers or what?

From what I can read only EXP's are eligible for AS upgrades.

That being said are AA's upgrades only available to AS's top tier flyers?

It sounds like PPro will also be eligible for AS upgrades once OW Emerald kicks in.

From the email:
"As a Platinum Pro member, you’ll soon be upgraded to oneworld Emerald status and have access to even more benefits with our oneworld partners (including complimentary First Class upgrades on Alaska Airlines)."

Where is the "upgrade fare type" filter on AS site in order to find YBHKMLVSN that are instant after booking for the premium seat ? I can't see that on the mobile site. I assume the lowest "Main" fare would be QOG instead that has to wait til 72 hours to departure

Plat Pro, Platinum, and Gold are upgrade-eligible too but only for certain fare classes.

From https://viewfromthewing.com/american...ocal-upgrades/ :
Executive Platinum and Concierge Key: at the time of booking
Platinum Pro and Platinum: at time of booking if not buying the cheapest fares (so, if booked into Y, B, H, K, M, L, V, S or N fare buckets) or within 72 hours of travel on lower fare classes.
Gold: at time of booking on full fare (Y, B, H) or within 48 hours of travel

Odd. On both m.alaskaair.com (Safari/iOS) and the iPhone app, there's a "More Search options" button right underneath the number of passengers.

That's for the premium seat requirement not for First

That indicates that they're upgrade-eligible on all fares. They are upgrade-eligible at booking if in certain fare classes (and the U space is available); in other fare classes, they become upgrade-eligible close to the travel date (like for all status-based upgrades on AA). This is exactly how it works for AS elites, but the procedure is a bit confusing for those who aren't familiar with it. (It's quite different than AA, which doesn't have these status-based upgrades at booking.)

It all seems pretty incredible, at least enabling some better west coast access for many folks
