Bus at JFK to connect T5 and T8

It can be two separate itineraries, as long as you have the onward B6 boarding pass in hand when you show up to board the shuttle bus. If you don't have a same-day B6 boarding pass, you will need to go landside, ride the AirTrain to Terminal 5, check in, get a boarding pass, and clear security there.

So that brings up another question - If I am landside, and have a B6 flight, can I enter through terminal 8 and then take the shuttle? T8 has precheck, t5 precheck closes at 5pm, so after that you have to use the normal security line. Would this be a way to bypass that?
Now, you might have to make your case to the line-minder contract agents (who work on behalf of the airlines or terminal management, not TSA). They will probably try to say "Sir/Ma'am, you're in the wrong terminal for your flight," but if you politely explain that you KNOW that, and are just clearing security to visit a lounge, dine, or shop, they should let you through. TSA doesn't care, since everyone is screened to the same standards regardless of which airline you are flying.

Just wanted to check in and ask is the shuttle still running and it certainly is a quicker way to get from B6 to AA ? The walk alone in T8 to Air Tran is a joke...
Landing on B6 and need to get to AA so I might actually be able to use this. I had wanted to try it over summer when landing at T8 and headed to TWA but was advised w/ out an onward B6 BP I likely wouldnt be let on teh shuttle.
Where in T5 do I pick up the shuttle at? And once let off the shuttle at T8 how far from FL will I be?

Yes I saw it running when I was there a few weeks back. Indeed the person sitting next to me was flying LAX-JFK-SYR with the latter flight being an AA code share on JB. The shuttle departs somewhere near gate 45 at JFK which is near the Admirals Club.

It was running as of this weekend, although I have not taken it myself.
The boarding point is in the connector between the two concourses. If you are coming from the far concourse, walk the tunnel to the terminal side concourse. After you get off the escalator coming back up, a little ways up is a podium where you need to show your boarding pass. It seems like they get a little group together and escort them down via an elevator to the lower level to pick up the bus.

The walk to Air Train? Feels crazy long. If you're coming from the higher number T8 gates like where you have to go down the escalator then up and then all the way to the right to get landside. Then all the way back left to elevators. If I recall then up and a long walk, more escalators, another elevator too maybe? Thought it was really long. Whereas from TWA/T5 felt quicker.

Sounds like maybe I missed the signs you are referring to in order to get out of T8 quicker? At any rate, for this weekend I should avoid Air Tran if landing at T5 w/ an onward BP on AA at T8 right?

Poster above had said by gate 45 so i am a bit confused
Although actually I need to pick it up at B6 and come to AA so do you or anyone happen to know where in T5 the pick up is?

Yes, that is correct. The bus station at T8 to ride over to JetBlue is located next to Hudson News, across from the elevators to the Flagship Lounge. There is a podium with agents who will verify that you have an onward connection on B6 and then allow you to proceed down the elevator to the airside bus.

There's a crossing there, and across from you is the Air Train station, with an elevator right up to the loading platform. Obviously not a great choice when it's freezing out and snowing or raining, but when the weather is OK it is quicker.
