A Samsung Fab in Austin doesn't warrant a direct flights between Seoul and AUS. AUS-Hub-Asia destination to any place there is most sensible. LHR and FRA make a lot of sense since they are key (different) alliance partner hubs.

AUS-STL is going away....
https://www.kxan.com/news/local/aust...ustin-airport/
I thought they had canceled other of the AUS nonstops, but according to this only the one.
_________
Edited to add: I thought of at least 1 other flight that had been dropped, AUS-DEN. I actually flew on it in March 2022 and liked it.

American Airlines has canceled a nonstop route between Austin and St. Louis as part of network evaluations.
The airline last operated flights on the seasonal route in May, but a spokesperson confirmed to KXAN it would not be resuming flights after the seasonal break.
....
The cancellation is American’s second in two years from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, was canceled in November 2022 after the airline said the route was not meeting performance expectations. Rival Southwest Airlines plans to launch nonstop AUS-San Juan flights in March.
Meanwhile, American has added five new nonstop flights from AUS so far this year with another scheduled next month.

Looks like the ax has finally fallen...
Well, I predicted a few times in this thread that all these non-stops out of AUS couldn't possibly survive and it looks like the ax is finally coming down (and coming down hard I might add). Reported by One Mile At A Time this early this morning and then more commentary from Gary L at View From The Wing.

This appears to be cutting more than half of the non-stop destinations out of Austin, which is a pretty big whack at one time for sure. Many of these I really couldn't even fathom why they added, but a few I'll miss for sure.
Regards

I noticed this a couple of weeks ago when my n/s AUS-OKC was changed to a connection in DFW. I flown this route maybe six times since it started, and I paid anywhere from $60 to $100 one way. I never missed an upgrade as a platinum pro. I remember it started as an e175, and it was a CR7 towards the end. With Southwest also flying the route non-stop, there was a lot of capacity. Now I have to decide if I want to connect in DFW or start using WN on the route in the future.

Ouch... yeah I remember hearing a while back that their AUS operations was burning money fast. Shame considering they had plans for that admirals club there... I wonder if DL or UA will pick up some of the slack

The Memphis flight departs AUS at 9:28 PM, arriving into MEM at 11:11 PM. Ummm. that is generally not the time of day we want to arrive into a city we are completely unfamiliar with etc. But the kicker is the return. Departs MEM at 6:28 AM. I mean good grief, who in the world wants to end their relaxing vacation/getaway by having to catch a flight at 6:30 AM!?! Are you kidding me? No wonder that route was a failure....
Most of these routes were a result of AA's panic at the rapid decline of business travel when Covid hit. So they threw a bunch of leisure destinations against the wall to see what would stick and that turns out to be... not much...
I don't think you will see much interest from UA or DL in picking many of these routes up. The challenge for AUS is that we live in the shadow of two very large hubs, DFW for AA and IAH for UA. Economically, it just isn't very feasible to support a lot of non-stops from AUS when the very large hub is a ~1'ish hr flight away.

Actually, I think just the opposite. Frankly, AA got way, way out in front of their skies on a whole lot of these routes. There are reasons their competition didn't follow suit. Many of these routes never had a prayer at surviving. And then, to make things harder many of the routes were setup to fail. For example, my wife has a close friend in Memphis that we were considering visiting and it would be combined with vacation/sightseeing. I thought great, we'll take advantage of the AA non-stop. Then I started researching it.

While these routes didn't work, don't assume it's because everyone has the same travel patterns as your wife.

I woke up this morning to my March AUS-RNO flights canceled and rebooked on a connection through PHX. This sucks. Looking on AA.com, it seems Jan 5th is the last date for that non-stop.
They put me on a flight with a 45 min connection and I will have checked ski gear, so Ill need to call AA and find a better set of flights.

It'll be interesting to see if/when they load additional capacity to hubs. In my case, I booked AUS-RNO months ago as I wanted the non-stop. This is Spring Break week for Austin schools, so they weren't cheap at like $775 per person. Every flight this week AA had pegged at $700+, even to competitive airports like SFO/LAX.
I just called AA and like every alternative flight with an attractive time is completely sold out. I did get on slightly better connections, but the marketed price for these flights connecting through DFW are ~$2,000 / person. Clearly, AA has an immediate capacity problem, so hopefully we see larger aircraft and increased frequency like the pre-pandemic days. 319s just aren't going to cut it on some of these routes.
