Which CX space can AA pull from? (Trying to preserve upgrade)
Hi folks,
My original June 23 AA flight from HKG-LAX was cancelled, and AA subsequently put me on a CX flight that was then also cancelled. I'm trying to rebook on another CX flight, but having a hard time finding business class availability on the few CX flights that remain. I found a flight on June 16 that's J8/C8/D9, but AA says there's no business space available (I'm told they only see the U space CX releases?). In fact none of the CX flights in June seem to have any U space, although there are plenty of seats available. Is there any way AA can access business seats in another fare class? Thx for any help. |
Was this an award booking or a cash booking.?
if you final destination LAX? if not maybe AA can find you another routing.. may not be the best, but will get you to where you need to go, plus a few connections. |

nice to see AA try to find you J inventory... I think for now , since your flight is in June, just keep checking with AA
hopefully by the time you are ready to fly.. there may be something for you. worst case, is that you will be in Y.... again, if you want to stay in J (which of course I fully understand), you might want to see other routing, DFW comes to mind, (sorry not sure if AA is still flying into DFW ,) |
Thanks for the input. I'll hold tight for now and see if something opens up.

best of luck

Japan Airlines is a Joint Business Agreement partner with AA, and AA can more easily preserve your upgrade using JL and AA than with CX, which is t a JBA partner. Only you can decide which is more important to you - returning expeditiously, or in Business Class. |
The closest date with U Availability is 01 Jul:
[KVS Tool 9.8.2/Diamond - Awards/JL-OneWorld/US] Code:
HKG Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Intl HK [VHHH] |

Heres something to consider, assuming transit is allowed in Japan.

AA cannot book you into U class on CX if this was a revenue ticket and mileage+copay upgrade; they should book into one of the revenue fare classes. It appears when for mileage+copay / SWU upgrades, AA protects into the upgraded cabin. In this case, they should protect you into a revenue fare class (JCDPI). Just give them another call and see what they say.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone! I'm afraid the conversation might be above my head at this point.:) The mention of JBA airlines--is that referring to joint ventures, like JAL, etc.? I guess CX is not that, but just a oneworld partner? I'll give AA another call and see what they say. Any tips on what to say when the frontline agent says "there's no space available" even though I know there are plenty of seats left in J/C/D?
Again thx for the input. |
