A Friend Just Texted me This:
"Just talked to Citi and they JUST put out a memo today saying all Citi executive cardholders will get a $225 credit to their accounts the month their annual fee is due... so come November I’ll get $225"

My issue? Mine hit in April... i got like 2 weeks before I hit 37 days.

Anyone else hear this?

Edit to add:"A One Time courtesy credit of 225" If account was open before March 30 (?), 2020 - But only paying that out starting for fees hitting, June 1 of 2020, through May 31, of 2021."

How poorly could they roll that out, for when your customers are thinking weeks away, you're telling them to pay up and wait another 11 months.

That will be enough for me to keep it assuming Admirals Clubs start opening back up with food and drink service. My renewal date is less than a month away and I understand I have 37 days after that, so hopefully it all works out.

I'm sure things will not be the same again. No one else can say with certainty how things will look like, but if I were to guess, if there is a buffet style service, it'll probably be similar to how AMEX Centurion handled it in Hong Kong, where there was an attendant that served the hot food. Cold food were wrapped. Or they might just reduce the food and drink selection to cut cost. The value won't be there if that's the case.

My renewal fee posted yesterday.

5 minute call to Citi... agent told me about the $225 statement credit, and then when I pressed about cancelling, was given a retention offer of $250 credit for spending $5k over 3 months.

Certainly there are better cards out there given the lack of usable benefits and only earning 1 mile/dollar, but getting the whole fee waived removes some of the sting.

My annual fee hit yesterday, so knowing my luck, the credit won’t hit until next May! I had a very similar thing happen with my auto insurance. It renewed April 7th. On the 8th of April the insurance co stated that all premiums would be lowered by 15% on the next renewal date. I have to wait until my next renewal on Oct 7th to see the premium rate drop which is the last date that is entitled for the rate drop.

To be clear: it won't - like myself - we get stuck waiting a year.

Thats a better retention offer, mine was only $100 total for $3k/month for 3 months (9k spend)

Kind of sucks that Citi isn't offering any promos for new apps considering no one can really take advantage of the Executive's benefits. I think they should just give a $225 discount for those people as well.

Just got off the phone with Citi. My renewal fee hit in April, payment due in a couple weeks. Agent on the phone said there were no rebates or other offers. I asked her to check with a manager and when she came back she said that there will be a $225 rebate starting June 1 and that it would take one to two billing cycles for it to hit my account. But her wording was vague when I pressed her about whether I would have to wait until next year or if I would get a credit in June or July 2020. Since I have a couple of weeks before the 37 day deadline, she suggested that I wait a week and call back again since this all came down yesterday and no one really knows how it is going to work. She did not offer any retention challenges when I told her I would either downgrade or more likely, drop the card altogether since I moved all of my spend to CSR when Citi gutted all of the travel benefits on their cards (which I did use in the past). The AC for myself and authorized users is the only reason I still have this card. I am still peeved that AA has closed all of their clubs while DL and UA have left clubs at their hubs open. I am ORD based and can access the UC when I fly UA but not the AC when I fly AA.

Out of curiosity, did you ever specifically get transferred to an account specialist? Usually the first person you speak with can't help w/ a retention offer. Once you say the magic words 'I'm going to cancel', you'll get passed on to someone who has the power to give you more (if they want to retain you).

No, I did not. But I will when I call next week if it turns out that I have to wait until April 2021 to get the credit. If the credit comes in June or July 2020, I will stay on. They may not care to keep me since I moved almost all of my spend to CSR last year when Citi gutted their travel and other benefits on this card.

Mine renewed in March and bill paid in April. A $225 rebate is a good offer, but it would be ridiculous to make me wait until next March to get it.

I took a look at my upcoming flights after all the cancellations. All I have left are two trips to the UK with one Aug and one in Dec with a mix of J and F, so I would get lounge access anyway, though technically as PPRO, even Y would gain me access. The Aug flight is on shaky ground given the new quarantine requirements for the UK to be implemented at the end of this month and the Dec flight is less than 50-50 imho (The EF BA board states that a 747 pilot has been told not to expect SAN flights until 2021), so as of now, I’m probably grounded. Even if I eventually get the $225 rebate next May, I’ll still have had 6+ months of zero usage, so I’m as well as just dropping the card whilst I can still get a refund on the annual fee that hit earlier this month.

I actually received an email from AA this morning showing me the benefits I’ve received from the card. They calculated $675, made up of $575 on AAdmirals Club fees and $100 on the GE rebate. What really amazed me was that they stated that I had received 16,000 miles on 2x AA purchases and 17,000 miles on other purchases as I had thought I had stopped using the card when Citi gutted the benefits and when AA made J saver awards pretty much extinct. I then remembered that I was about 20K miles short of $160K miles in my account and was hoping that I would find upcoming availability on TN to PPT for a cruise that I had planned for the future, so I had spanked the card with a number of flights I had planned, to get me over the hump.

The miles are still in my account, all my cruise plans are in tatters and I think I would have preferred the $480 in Costco cash back I would have earned on 3x travel rewards. That would have covered the Citi Exec annual fee! Rebate, or no rebate! 😵

The AA mail stated that I had been a member since 2015, so If I cancel and re-apply when this is all over, I’ll be eligible for the 50-60K SUB. That will cover 2 miles + copay as I still expect J savers to be as rare as rocking horse $#!+

Nobody should count on the same deal being offered on new cards down stream. Credit underwriting is about to enter a whole new phase and it won't just have to do with this particular card.
