Fare classes eligible for full refund?

I have 3 domestic flights coming up in the next 4 months. They are all I class tickets. Is this fare class eligible for a full refund? I have spent a great deal of time searching the aa site and could not find the answer. It seems to me that several years ago there was a list of fare classes and rules. So sorry If I couldn't find it.

Thanks for the help.

It depends on the fare basis, but IME most I fares are non-refundable. Fare basis varies based on originating and destination cities, dates, day of week traveling, how far in advance fare is purchased, etc. Below are fare basis for DCA-LHR I fares. The more expensive the ticket, generally the more likelihood that it is refundable. The fare basis shown below are sorted by their respective prices (low to high, but not shown). So for example the second to last fare basis listed below is for a round trip ticket that costs $4800 USD and is refundable but incurs a fee of $275 to do so:

To find out whether your fare is refundable, and if so if there is a fee incurred it is probably easiest to call AA. Either that or go to the refund page and find your fare rules. Somewhere on FT there are instructions on how to find out from the refunds page or perhaps someone else can help with instructions. On the rare occasion I neglected to check my fare rules, I call AA for info.

aaupgrade thanks very much for the information. I am not sure I understand where you find the fare basis. That said I will look on he refund page and see if I can figure it out. Again, thanks for the great information.

Thanks for the help.

Your receipts from American should show as such. It’ll say in the endorsements if it’s nonrefundable. You could also send a direct message to American via Twitter with your confirmation numbers and they can tell you

You cannot tell by just the fare basis alone whether any given fare is fully refundable or not. You either need to look into the detailed fare rules if you have them, or call AA.

You can find the fare rules using Experflyer if you manage to locate the underlying fare code.

The letter itself doesn't mean much even though Y, J, F are typically the most flexible.
