In response to the SARS-CoV-2 novel Coronavirus pandemic economic slowdown and resultant decrease in travel, American Airlines is retiring 156 aircraft by removing four different models and some older 737 NG aircraft:
Airbus A330-300 (all 9 to be retired 2020)
Boeing 737-800 (76 older airframes)
Boeing 757-200 (remaining 34 to be retired by end of summer 2021 season, but last went to ROW in April)
Boeing 767-300 (last one of 17 in service this year retired to ROW / Roswell, NM on 31 March 2020)
Bombardier CRJ200 (19 to be retired)
Embraer E190 (20 to be retired during 2020)
Most of these are already parked.

I flew both the AA 767 (ex-JFK) and AA 757 (ex-CDG due to MX) about 18 months ago. I'll miss the 767 for the paired window seating in Y and the roominess compared to the 757 which can't leave service fast enough IMO. I don't mind single aisle in shorter TATL most of the time but the seats on the AA 757 are the worst of any used for those routes.

Curious what the plan is for the international 757 routes? There’s nothing with lie-flat that small until the 321XLR arrives in 2023, if I’m reading things right ?
I guess the answer is probably the one-a-day routes are suspended and routes like Lima (3 757s a day) get one or two widebodies instead...? Or is there the intention to put some lie-flats in MAXes?

But not having them was a AA issue - not a platform issue. As said, I actually liked the platform.
Anyone know what will happen to them when retired? Mothballed? Sold?

The 763s/LAA 757s have screen throughout the cabin 1980s style. Although dated inside the 763s are probably the most comfortable AA a/c in Y and I found the J seats also pretty decent, particularly the even number rows. Also a nice J seat ratio for the domestic routes they served. The last batch are the newer models and seem to be less maintenance prone.

Dated or not, with 86% of the coach seats NOT being middle seats, it’s hard to find a better config than 2-3-2 if you’re in the back of the bus. I’d rather take a 767 and bring my own IFE any day than travel in a 10-across 777 or even the shiny new 787s.

I couldn't even pay to upgrade to MCE as we were down-gauged from the 767 due to MX. Can't speak to the front but the back was awful. What sticks out was having fantastic crews on both legs. The 767 leg was particularly memorable as it was a mostly French crew which I had not seen on an US carrier before.

Maybe it's me but I found the 767 to be incredibly noisy in the Y cabin, worse than any other current airliner. Will not miss these old Screamliners.
