At the beginning of the Covid “era” flight loads appeared quite light. As AA refined flights, routes and aircraft, many fewer seats has meant in some instances full aircraft and oversold flights. In others higher capacity widebody aircraft may offer less crowded cabins. International flights are often operating way below capacity at this time, as many nations have bans in place for American and other specified country’s visitors other than those permitted to travel for essential services. Check aa.com sherpa for further information about international destinations’ current Covid-related restrictions.

AA does not block middle seats in coach.

They're using these stupid planes on MIA-TPA and MIA-MCO as well and they're always packed and overpriced in F due to the lack of seats available. It makes it a real pain when it comes to connections because it's the short MIA-FL segment that jacks the price up.

I completely agree, but alas, FTers always seem to struggle mightily with recognizing reality.

Regards

Bingo.

The last couple few years will be looked upon fondly by FFers in years to come.

11/10 AA 2856 RDU-CLT A-319: 100% Full
11/10 AA 5563 CLT-STL A-319: 100% Full

I missed both upgrades too. On the first flight the list was about 16 people and I was #2 but on the second it was half a dozen at most. As crappy as missing upgrades is if it's because people are buying F that's good for AA so I won't complaint.

MCO would even get 763s in the past, but alas, no more 763s since AA retired them

Indeed. At one point MCO-MIA had been all A300 too.

11/15 AA 802 RDU-DFW 737-800: 100% Full
11/15 AA 2207 DFW-CUN 787-9: 100% Full. App claimed they were taking volunteers. My companion and I only cleared upgrades at the gate after someone no showed.

DFW CUN is always full, glad your upgrade cleared!

I noticed one of my flights coming up at the beginning of December drastically opened up more seats, not sure if it's because more people are cancelling/switching or if AA just decided to release more inventory.

If it’s to a destination that recently has locked down, that would probably be your answer.

To Connecticut, which isn't really locked down at the moment but has a negative test/14 day quarantine if coming in from any state besides NY/NJ.

Seems like demand seems to be softening - I have rebooked my SFO - Florida flight this weekend twice (once changing dates, once rebooking at lower far), resulting in ticket cumulatively going from $280 to $140 (o/w)...and I was upgraded for both segments through DFW at T100

Monday 11/16 PM

SAV - CLT = 100% Full in F, ~60% full in Y (A320 full house from row 20ish back, which suggest majority leisure/BE crowd)

CLT - DCA = 100% Full in F, ~90% full in Y (A321 notably, can't recall being on that equipment to DCA ex CLT before pre COVID)

Award tickets for me so no upgrade potential, but MCE had a bunch of free seats on both flights (would say 50-60% occupied).

I did note circa 16 folks on the upgrade list to DCA in addition to a bunch of standbys which suggests to me that elites are traveling (or at least that F is being paid for with the corresponding effect on upgrades) along with BE leisure but no one in between.
