BOS-NYC, interesting alternative to AA shuttle

Cape Air, seaplane service from Long Wharf in Boston to East 23rd Street in New York. Flight is 1 hour long; I assume check-in and disembarking would take less time than on the AA shuttle, so that total travel time, downtown to downtown would be significantly less than the AA shuttle. Fare not specified, but to be the same as the "walkup" fare at Logan for a trip to New York. Be interesting to see if this succeeds. I wouldn't want to fly a seaplane in a New England winter, though.

I wonder how much the prohibition on NY residents from enrolling in TSA Pre-Check is affecting the Shuttle.

My alternative is the Acela, but an hour trip is significant faster than anything.

And an odd exclusion (fortunately I don't have that phone): "Cape Air does not carry hazardous materials of any kind. This includes items such as gasoline containers or other flammable items, batteries, oxygen or other compressed gases, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone."

Current "walk up" e.g. Y fare on the AAS is just about $450. So, this isn't a cheap alternative. They also run this service out to the Hamptons in the summer. Fare is about $750 OW.

True, $450 seems expensive, but if the total travel time downtown-downtown is half or less of the AA shuttle, then that can save money for those who bill by the hour...

I can't speak to the economics of the Hamptons summer service, as that's more of a name-dropping service!

The restriction isn't for precheck but the other known traveler programs. It also only effects renewing or new applicants. I just renewed a few months ago and am good for more than 5 years from now (as my birthday is still coming up), I bet it'll get sorted out by then.

I got all excited because it said Seaplane. Its a Floatplane. Bummer.

FYI, it's not Cape Air running this to the Hamptons, it's Blade.

This was big news a few years ago, I think all airlines banned it and Samsung either recalled or pulled the phone from the market - there were numerous reports of overheating/exploding batteries.

Service sounds cool, but will be interesting to see how reliable it is. As mentioned, Cape Air doesn't service the Hamptons, but they do fly to Provincetown (from BOS and HPN) and I think other Cape-area destinations like Nantucket, Martha's Vinyeard, and/or Hyannis.

The samsung galaxy Note 7 is classified as a forbidden hazardous material pursuant to a 2016 emergency restriction/prohibition order by the FAA. The order can be found in the federal register at 81 FR 71983.
