I’m back to not receiving the UPG email notifications....stuck in the middle section of a 763 now instead of my favorite even numbered window seat on A/J side.

Does AA booking show that an upgrade has been requested?

Sorry, I'm new to the upgrade game at AA.

I've requested a mileage upgrade for my brother and his wife later this year on PHL-ATH. Agent took all of my information, including CC number for the copay. She told me that the upgrade was waitlisted, but I would get an email notification if it cleared. However, when I look at their reservation, I see nothing indicating that the upgrade was requested. Is this normal?

Also, is there anyway in the AA reservation system to see the fare buckets that are available for a given flight or does one have to use EF? (UA's system displays this data if you select expert mode.)

TIA.

Yes, it’s normal not to see any indication of waitlisted upgrades. You would need to use EF to see fare inventory.

I posted this is another thread, but it belongs here.

I waitlisted for a Hawaii upgrade (miles plus really high co-pay) for a group of 4 (need C=4, at booking one segment was C=2, but you can't upgrade a partial reservation). The higher co-pay does suck because we don't typically have lie-flat out of LAX for Hawaii (which I thought was why they bumped up the co-pay). Here were my choices:

-Potentially wait for an e500 upgrade (almost no chance as in one PLT year recently, I only got two upgrades and another one I only got five for the whole year). My other non-peak Hawaii trips in 2020 have also failed to get PLT upgrades. Also, I would have to split the itinerary which I didn't want to do even though I am supposed to be able to maintain my MCE and so forth.
-Buy restricted first (very tempting as the lowest non-BE fare plus miles plus copay was not too different). Also considering how the first fare would qualify for more miles and EQD, this seemed very interesting. I didn't go this route. I admit I have taken a dimmer view on the value of miles in the cost equation.
-Look for reward awards on AS or AA. Those did not exist at any reasonable rate. Were not available in economy either at any saaver-like rate.
-Waitlist for the miles upgrade (which I did/am doing)

I am still waiting on the return which was C=0 are booking, so clearly going to be harder. I just have to hope they open inventory before any CK or EXP folks book economy award or paid tickets and their upgrade window open or waitlist a SWU.

Just as a note, my online itinerary does indicate the type of upgrade I am waitlisting for (mileage upgrade versus the e500) and lists the upgrade as a standby from a flight perspective. However, even after one confirmed segment that happened awhile after booking, there is no status change, email or any other notification except that segment is not standby and I picked seats in the new cabin. I admit to be slightly happy that I paid the extra to avoid the BE fare so that I could even be upgrade eligible, but still am a bit unhappy that I couldn't buy the lowest fare.

So, just keep monitoring the reservation from time to to time if you are waitlisting an upgrade of this type. Note not to expect any type of notification on these mileage upgrades.

Today, ORD-LAX: #1 of 17; upgraded at boarding, although not actually boarding yet.

Was it C1? Amazing to think a Monday flight between two huge cities and hubs wasn't sold out long ago.

No evidence but my DFW-ORD cleared 4 days out. Got to ORD and it sure seemed “fewer” people than normal. My ORD-MDT went out w/4 empty seats in 1st.

Corona related?

I don’t actually know. I know the AA site was showing no availability - I was kinda’ surprised, yet pleased, to get the upgrade.

Speaking of Corona has anyone been upgraded this week on flights that are notoriously zeroed out in advance and/or have long upgrade lists? I’m flying to SEA next week. That definitely will be a data point for me.

I just got an UPG on an A319 STL-DFW in a couple days which I was shocked about given how small that FC cabin is and I’m mainly a domestic lower spend EXP. Also I’m still not getting any email UPG notifications....did something change that I need to update?

STL-DFW on the 319 is hit or miss for upgrades... I've had Y award tickets upgraded at T-100 on this route, as well as had flights I'd like to take in J be completely sold out weeks in advance. I do an annual spring training baseball trip with my brother, who lives near STL. We're flying from STL, connecting at DFW later this month on the 319, snatched up discount J tickets early on, and I noticed the other day the cabin is now sold out... on a Wednesday afternoon lol.

Monday mornings, Thursday afternoons, and Sunday evenings tend to be worst for upgrades, but even taking day/time into account, it can be difficult to predict at times, and the minute there's IROPS with any flight out of STL (not just to DFW, but to any hub), the 319 flight cabins to all hubs (CLT, PHL, PHX, DFW, ORD, LAX) always seem to be zeroed out for people who need to be re-booked.

My downgrade to plat status is starting to show.... DCA-CLT: cleared at T-48h. CLT-DCA: #11 out of #18 . Next week's trip is all F class.

Can you use AA Vouchers from a previously cancelled trip to upgrade a INTL flight with miles and copay ? I figure that is a no but thought I would ask

Datapoint for Upgrade Email issue:
Upgraded at EXP window for 2 monday flights, but no email received. Previously have always received upgrade emails.

I'm not seeing anything dramatic. YYZ-CLT as an EXP I'm 7/21 on the list for an A319. Last week it was 11/30. Not sure if that's a change or normal fluctuation.
