The 787 flight dfw-ord Friday I'm taking I was able to select the PE seats so I'm happy. There will be no upgrade anyway as the J cabin is sold out. AA had been selling the upgrades through the app for weeks now at $97/each way.

That's not a bad up fare price for 787 J.

AA is dead last or in the bottom quartile in nearly every DOT metric this year.

10/22: BOS-LAX-SEA (J/EXP)
Skywest meltdown, second flight was delayed and eventually cancelled. Rebooked in Y on AS. Bags lost until next night.
$275 for interim expenses in several installments (thru AS).
12,500 miles compensation, and $68 refunded in fare difference for the LAX-SEA portion.

The same happened on my return yesterday. At departure only 3 people on the upgrade list and I was #2. Cleared just prior to boarding.

Because of the 3 hour delay on 2223 I went from 2/30/0 to 1/12/6

My flights are almost all PHL-LAS and back, and I take a lot of red-eyes eastbound, but it's hit-or-miss to get a 787 vs. a 321. I sleep like crap on an airplane so for me which bird I get is litterally a night-and-day difference.
I've never seen purchaseable upgrades on this route, but I usually buy F anyway. I haven't been this fall though. In November I got upgraded at the gate westbound and sat in PE on the way back. In December I was upgraded at the EXP window westbound, and I'm pretty optimistic about the return because right now only 5 of the 20 J seats are occupied. I'm surprised they aren't trying to sell upgrades, but the flight is Christmas Eve. I'm expecting some jokes from the pilot about ATC tracking a sleigh.
