AA agents have occasionally allowed passengers with booked travel wishing to cancel because of Coronavirus concerns to cancel without fees, but this is not AA official policy. Possible reasons:
Events, meetings, etc. you were to attend have been cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns, so your trip would be in vain.
You have documentable health conditions that your doctor feels are sufficient to cancel travel plans.

Had a web special reward booking LHR-LAX - LAX-LHR, which I managed to cancel this morning without the usual $150 rebooking fee.

I paid £175 to select my preferred seats which I'm told is not refundable - is this right?

Assuming when you cancel that you are issued a credit tied to the original ticket number? And when you want to use the credit you need to call and give them that number? Or are they issuing actual refunds to the CC used to purchase?

For non-refundable tickets they're only issuing refunds to CC if your flight is canceled. Otherwise a credit for future travel without the usual change fee.

In my case, they had a note of the CC I booked with and said the refund would go to that within 3 days or so.

Even arriving via LHR (non-Schengen) to JFK doesn't matter as you came from HAM/Germany?

So I'm trying to get AA to change the departure point from HAM to DUB, which is not in Schengen.

I did initially ask them to just let me start the ticket at LHR, but they refused, which is frustrating.

Strategy question for the experts: on 2/27 I booked Main Cabin fare on aa.com RT DEN-PHX for travel 3/27-3/30. Not sure I can travel again this year, so the credit may be worthless to me.

Is it best to wait until the day before departure and check to see if they canceled (or changed) the flight? So if they change me from 3:30pm Depart to the 6pm Depart - can I cancel to get a refund? I'm wondering if some of these flights might be combined.

TIA!

Did you get offered anything other than the standard one change with no change fees?

I'm supposed to be flying GOT-LHR-LAX-LHR-PRG starting this weekend and that was all I was offered.

Would ideally prefer either a long re-booking (ticket was bought in June 2019), to start in London or a refund. However not sure any of those are they are possible unless AA issue a travel alert for the Schengen travel ban.

I've read through this thread a bit and am still a bit unclear. I have a flight from PHX to TPA on Sunday, March 15th that I will no longer be taking as my company today restricted travel for the foreseeable future. I booked the ticket on January 21st so seems I fall under the new change / cancellation policies. I eventually will take the trip again but cannot commit to a date so far. I think the best thing to do would be to just cancel and use the credit at a future date. Do I have to call in to do so or can I simply cancel online and then call when I'm ready to rebook, provided it's within the window? Don't really want to mess with the call times and really don't want to take an agent away from someone right now that can really use the help. I'm home and safe and figure others have more important things to speak with an agent on to get them home.

I checked my booking and it doesn't have any "Change trip" option. Is it possible to drop the ORD layover but maintaining the same origin and destination (making it purely operated BA flight)?
You will not be allowed to transit thru ORD your best bet is to fly nonstop to YYZ. Anyways in a few days GB and Ireland might be shut out too. Wait and see.

So, another hour on the phone...

I was told they would waive all change fees, but I would need to pay the difference in fares between my routings - so this totalled at £3,300 for what I asked for! Obviously I said no thanks!

AA told me they would let me change my dates to any time before December 2020, but seeing as they don't know when this current policy will change, doing so would be a little pointless.

The useful thing the AAgent told me, was to call back in a few days time when they know what they can and cannot do; he felt they will likely waive all change fees, as well as all fare differences.

I'm flying in 15 days time, so thankfully I can wait, but AA aren't sure yet what their own policy is!

FWIW when I put in travel dates before 6/25 it showed a $1 change fee (maybe it is programmed to not allow zero). However- if I put in dates post 6/25 I got a message that travel had to be within 12 months of purchase.

A few months ago I booked a one way flight for 2 people from JFK to SAN in Basic Economy. The flight is scheduled for a week from today (late March). It appears that AA changed our routing through CLT since they no longer appear to offering direct flights on this route until June although AA didn't notify me about this and aa.com still shows me an alert that says "Your flight changed. Please check back soon to see what changed."

I don't see any option to change my flight, which is strange since I should be eligible given AA's recent announcements. This flight is within the timeframe (prior to the end of March). It only shows a cancellation option which it says will cost me the entire value that I paid. In addition they changed my routing (not sure if that allows me to get a refund, does it?).

Short of calling AA and waiting on hold for hours, any thoughts on how to proceed? Ideally I would need a refund since I don't plan to fly this route again. A more flexible voucher would still be useful to me.

Has anyone tried cancelling an award booking on partner metal? I have an award booking on JL metal (JFK-HND) that I booked back in December for travel in April. I just want to hear some datapoints before I wait on hold for nothing.

I had a domestic trip scheduled Mar 12-Mar 15. Last night (Mar 11) I decided to cancel. I ticketed on March 4.

I phoned in and heard there was a two hour wait, but I could press a number to get a call back. That I did.

About two hours later, I did get a call back and a super-helpful, super-pleasant agent took care of me.

My reservation was cancelled. No change fee for ONE change. I have to commence travel before 3/4/2021 on that ticket number.

It took about 45 min, as the change fee policies have been updated several times. The super-helpful, super-pleasant agent had to sift through various fare rules and wanted to get it right. She was fabulous.

I just need to hang on to my ticket number, then call later to rebook with that ticket number. I will have to pay any fare difference.
