AA agents have occasionally allowed passengers with booked travel wishing to cancel because of Coronavirus concerns to cancel without fees, but this is not AA official policy. Possible reasons:
Events, meetings, etc. you were to attend have been cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns, so your trip would be in vain.
You have documentable health conditions that your doctor feels are sufficient to cancel travel plans.

So basically people like me who book travel in advance are penalized.

At first I thought that we just had to BOOK by 6/25/20 (12 months from our date of purchase) but NO- AA is graciously offering to waive our change fees if we travel within 2 months of our original dates.

Don’t worry AA - your awesome customer policy has made my future travel plans easier. One less airline to check because we won’t be flying AA.

Unfortunately too late for me as I would now have a $340 Marriott for Tomorrow i.e. with 48 hours. Seems I cant win. Good News both my Flight and Marriott Room.have been upgraded.
AA’s policy is more restrictive than Delta’s- 12/31/20 or 12 months from date of purchase- whichever is Earlier.

Delta’s posted advisory appears to have the same fine print... that travel must be completed within one year of original ticket issue date or 12/31/2020. YMMV

What airports are approved entry points for customers entering the United States if the customer has visited a country within the Schengen Area, Iran or mainland China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) within the last 14 days?

ATL, DFW, DTW, EWR, HNL, JFK, LAX, ORD, SEA, SFO, IAD

That means, that all traffic between CLT/PHL and the Schengen-area is CANX!?

So AA has no flights from e.g. AMS, ZRH & MUC - and FRA reduced to AA70/71.

I'm waiting to find out. I'm booked PHL-CDG during that time frame, but so far AA hasn't shown any changes or cancellations of my flights. I'm guessing they're toast and AA is just scrambling to figure out their response to the announcement last night. Very sad- I was looking forward to my trip.

What happens if I booked three tickets for myself and two family members and I cancel?

If the funds are deposited into an account, I then have through 12/31 or one year from issue to use them. I get that but say the total cost for all three tickets was $1,000, what happens if rebook tickets and the cost is $500 less? Do I just lose the $500?

Question Transit blues

Hello! I am a resident of France, traveling on first week of April on this route booked on AA: CDG - LHR - ORD - YYZ // YUL - LHR - CDG.

As a resident (but not a citizen) of a Schengen country transiting via Chicago to Toronto, am I still part of the ban regardless if my US flight is coming from London? I checked my booking and it doesn't have any "Change trip" option. Is it possible to drop the ORD layover but maintaining the same origin and destination (making it purely operated BA flight)?

I have a trip booked for April 12-17. Can I cancel it and leave the funds "on deposit" to rebook later? I would probably still take the trip/use the funds, but I wouldn't want to try to guess what my revised dates would be.

Mrs. dwcatty has a flight booked prior to March 1 scheduled to fly next week that she wants to cancel. She booked in Basic Economy. The March 10 AA statement says " Any ticket purchased prior to March 1 will not incur change fees prior to travel." Any would include Basic - there appear to be no exceptions. When I go to her itinerary online the top bar has a "cancel" tab, and when I click on it it says it is a non-refundable ticket. I am loath to cancel online. I tried to call reservations but the system is so overwhelmed it hung up on me.

Anyone have any thoughts on cancelling a Basic economy ticket? TIA

I believe all of the exceptions for no change fees HAVE to be done over the phone. So just keep trying. They aren't going to modify their web code for this.

Ok, that makes sense to me, thanks. I did a search of this thread and found nothing for Basic Economy.

I've got HAM-HEL-LHR-JFK-BOS with AA coming up, which obviously I cannot do.

Time to see what they'll allow me to change to!

AA allowed me to cancel four (4) web special award tickets to LAX this weekend, no redeposit fee. Very few questions asked.
I booked these several months ago.
