It's no fun moving backwards on the ladder. I have done it many times in life, both in AA status and financially.
I once was CK and DH and I still look wistfully at the velvet rope at the Flagship Check-In while we wait in the Pre-Check lane.
Sigh.
But it also prompts fond memories. Remember when the CK ambassador materialized out of nowhere to pre-board us (I swear she was hiding in the podium)?
And escorted us on the plane with her iPad and asked a First Class passenger to move so that we could sit together?
So now---we mostly pay to fly business/first or use miles to purchase business/first. If we don't----we will be staring longingly at the curtain while sitting in MCE. Missing PDB, smelling warm nuts, meals and hearing the tinkling of real glass for the cocktails.
My recommendation would be the gift of a bunch of 500-mile upgrades so she can upgrade when she chooses.

My Dear your idea of showering is not mine - we are talking about one round trip ticket. I suppose that in similar vein it is unsurprising that a man does not get it.

I think you should sit her down and explain to her that she now has peasant status with AA and her travel life won't be the same. She won't be on the upgrade list any more, will pay for her bag, won't even get preferred seats, and board with group 7, unless she pays extra. Then tell her that you are sorry that this happened to her, and ask her what she is going to do, does she have a plan, and if she is gonna be okay.

My girlfriend, an eight year EXP, dropped to PLT last year, and will be no status this coming year. (She quit her corporate job in 2018 to start her own business). She's going on a girl's trip to LAS in the morning, and she asked me today why her upgrade hadn't cleared. I don't know how to break it to her, that, Babe, it isn't going to.
We pay for F or J when traveling together, but she, oddly, is ok going in Y alone. IOW, she won't pay for F for herself, but she was so spoiled by EXP, she got used to thinking she was gonna get upgraded. I'm laughing on the inside, but in the interest of maintaining the peace, I'm crying for her pain on the outside. Any advice, Flyertalkers?

I understand her pain. I lose EXP after tomorrow...it has been nice...got to use all SWU. Anyway, i will just revert to paid F/J until my next comp PLT with challenge up to EXP.....never fear true Elites....i dont fly that much relative to you so im not "stealing" your upgrades!

Querida Senora - your point of view intrigues me. I have never ever subscribed to running more than one man at a time and one husband if more that enough. He has learnt over the years that I will always let him have the least word in any discussion or argument - "Yes Dear". Whilst him manhood is in no doubt, had he not done exactly as I advised the OP (whether I would have accepted or not is another matter), otherwise her knows that his cujones would be served up to him on a plate wtih a mustard relish.

Jesus, people....it was meant to be a funny story about how my girlfriend was used to being EXP, isn't anymore, and asked me why her upgrade hadn't cleared .She had a ditzy moment, we laughed about it, and the next morning she sat in her Y seat, took a nap, and arrived safely at her destination. For all those who got that and participated, thank you for the funny comments in reply. For some others, I hope the view from your parents basement is a good one.
