Dfw wx delays

Flight 1630 ATL-DFW delayed due to wx according to the announcement the gate agent just made. However when I look at the FAA delay map it says:

Due to EQUIPMENT / OUTAGE, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport, Dallas-Ft Worth, TX (DFW). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 41 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

Update. Just now the gate agent came on the horn again and says: “hello I have an update on the status due to information I have found on the internet. It appears there is an equipment outage not weather”.

LOL

Update again. This is getting funny.

“Folks we will start boarding in 25 minutes. PLEASE be patient as there are over 100 top tier passengers on this flight”

They should have mentioned the issue is NOT with AA's equipment, otherwise people will expect compensation

That is an FAA equipment outage, not an AA outage, meaning it could still be weather if the weather somehow damaged the equipment.

Can I ask a stupid question? If these load factors are so high why doesn’t AA up gauge to a heavy?

are they overbooked? they do a pretty good job matching plane size with demand.

40 EXP does not = "high load factor" or need to upsize aircraft.

There were 42 people on standby. A few cleared.

42 standby's sounds like earlier cancellations or employees going to DFW for work.

Who knows. What I do know is T11 at ATL is one crammed and crappy gate!

Not necessarily. High frequency major business markets like ATL-DFW are ground zero for business travelers being conservative and booking the 7pm flight (as an example), finishing up with meetings early, and winding up being able to get out of town earlier.

NE airports been having cross-wind ATC holds/delays that is already having a knock-on effect ahead of tomorrow afternoon through Saturday's challenges for ORD and surrounding stations.

It could be a difficult travel weekend.

Well, you could be at the D2x gates. They are cramped and crappy and a long train ride away from the main terminal...

I've found most Thursday afternoon flights out of ATL on AA to be very elite-heavy, and lots of carryon bags (i.e. business travelers going home for the weekend). AA has no need to upgauge for ONE extra busy day per week.
