Admirals Club announces new menus 28 January 2020

Link to Ben / Lucky’s article on One Mile at a Time.

  • At major-market locations (BOS, CLT-B, DFW-A, DFW-C, DFW-D, JFK-C, LAX-5, LAX-4, LGA, MIA-D15, MIA-D30, ORD-HK, PHL B/C, PHX-A6, PHX-B6), expect lighter options, like egg scrambles for breakfast, and build-your-own grain bowls for lunch and dinner (replacing macaroni and cheese as of January 28, 2020):

  • At mid-market locations (AUS, DEN, DFW-B, DFW-E, IAH, LAX Regional, PHX-A20, SFO, SNA, YYZ, ATL, BNA, CLT-C, DCA-B, DCA-C, EWR, MCO, ORD-G, PHL-A4, PHL-F, PIT, RDU, STL, TPA), expect build-your-own macaroni and cheese, and build-your-own cobb and caesar salads

DCA is a mid-market location?

Or is that because our clubs don't have the kitchens to support the fancier food options?

Likely a combination of club size and market size... In any case, it's a poor choice of wording.

I highly doubt its because of market size. DCA is a highly profitable AA hub per their own statements. Its most likely due to the small size of the two clubs and the new club opening in the new terminal in 2021.

AA still hasn't figured out that if they want to ban people from bringing food in, they should offer a proper menu and not carb snacks.

Sounds promising, frankly... the food has been a weak point for years now, especially compared to DL the past few years, so hard to see how anyone could consider this negative news.

Its surely nice to have options other than cheese cubes and the snack towers of sadness so its a positive move IMO. I do find it funny that the mac n cheese got removed from "major" markets to make room for "lighter" options but its also the new option for "mid-market".. guess mid-market people don't like lighter options

There is no such ban to my knowledge.

Unrelated but JFK-C today has 3 different dressings for the make your own salad (and Mac n cheese) which actually looked good and were presented very nicely.

How is CLT-B a "Major" market and CLT-C is a "Mid" market?

Also SFO is a “mid market” location? They should check out the DL SkyClub at the same airport.

IMO the “major market” and “mid-market” designations have nothing to do with actual route valuation or “market”. They really seem to make little sense, and could be a handle someone charged with writing up a plausible differentiator chose.

Finally DEN is getting a different spread, albeit what I have been eating weekly in ORD. While it is not great, health or creativity wise, this new roll out will at least be more substantial in terms of food. It's funny how the cheese cubes went away, only to be the new "fruit and cheese" plate offered in F on mid day flights.
