Great and very interesting news. Seems that AA has all but abandoned growth at RDU while others are adding like mad (namely DL, who I believe serves 30 destinations now to AA's 12).

Big question about how much competition that route can handle, with RDU-BOS already being served by Delta and JetBlue, plus Frontier and Spirit.

Overall, very positive news.

I would be very surprised if this lasts year-round... I've flown back and forth to Boston from RDU a bit over the past week (and heard from co-workers who have done the same) and load factors on multiple airlines (B6, DL, F9) were in the 35-60% range. In my mind, there's not enough low-season demand for all these flights.

AA to start BOS - RDU/IND/ILM

Per TPG, AA to start three new routes out of BOS: RDU, IND, ILM. RDU will be up to 5x daily, IND 2x daily, and ILM Saturdays only, all starting in early May.

So is BOS now a de facto focus city?

The other thread listing the BOS Admirals Club as being a "Major Market Location" above such mid-market locations (such as all of DCA) all but confirms it. At some point, they should brand it a focus city and up the marketing -- Delta advertises on the T.

I'm a bit surprised nobody is flying a 50 seater regional jet to SBN from BOS, if IND gets 2x E175s a day. It's pretty easy to make money on short-haul with a small plane, and you have the chance to be the only non-stop in town.

I just checked the numbers and figured out why -- SBN moved 368,377 passengers total in 2018 and IND moved 9,413,962. Turns out IND is a much larger airport than I expected.

AUS was previously announced too.

I wonder if there would be a market for a second daily, summer only, flight from RDU to LHR. Perhaps on a BA 788.

Being partial based from Boston, I do like the rebuilding of destinations. I do wonder how these will perform against Jet Blue and Delta which operate most of the same routes. Here is where AA will be flying nonstop from BOS this year ()source Wikipedia).

Mainline Austin (begins April 7, 2020),Charlotte, Chicago–O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, London–Heathrow (resumes March 29, 2020),Los Angeles, Miami, New York–JFK, New York–LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Phoenix–Sky Harbor, Washington–National
Seasonal:Cancún, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Nassau, Providenciales, Punta Cana

Eagle Harrisburg, Indianapolis (begins May 7, 2020),Raleigh/Durham (begins May 7, 2020), Rochester (NY), Syracuse, Wilmington (NC) (begins May 9, 2020)
Seasonal: Key West (begins February 15, 2020)

Adding One-World Hong Kong, Tokyo–Narita, Doha, Casablanca, São Paulo–Guarulhos (LATAM so ending), Madrid
