Complimentary Temporary Gold to EXP Status targeted offer

Fascinating. My zero-AA-status spouse who hasn't flown AA in years just got an email with this offer:

You've been exclusively selected to receive complimentary American Airlines AAdvantageŽ Platinum Pro status through April 19, 2020 — no strings attached.

Register before you travel and no later than January 30, 2020.
Regrettably, work and other commitments will likely prevent us from traveling anywhere together until after April 19.

No complimentary CK status here.

WOW. These are impressive offers. *looks at email inbox* Nope... just another year of AA Gold earned the hard way.

So glad I earned AA status the hard way, sure makes it worth it when they just start handing it out for free (and skipping straight to PPRO - wow)

Presumably based on the customer's prospective value to AA.

I just had this offer for complimentary Platinum status land in my inbox. As a data point, I'm a Delta GM who flew AA once last year (it was in F). Not sure if it plays a role, but both my father and brother are Exec. Plat.

Just got this email for Platinum. Never have had AA status before, rarely ever fly it due to my base being SEA. Past two years I was both WN A+ w/Companion and Alaska MVP75k. Would AA know my status on other airlines?

Is it allowed to give the 500 mile upgrades away? I don't foresee me flying AA at all this year.

No, but I was chosen to Earn up to 2,500 bonus miles with Avis!

My dead cat got 20 500 mile upgrades too so he'd trump you!

I checked my wife and kid's account and they have no offer. I saw my wife had 10 500-mile upgrades though that I completely forgot about -- she got a targeted free gold last year at this time with the 10 upgrades , but didn't have a single flight last spring to use them on before the status expired.
