is this a valid connection? (MCTs in LAX, JFK)

didnt want to clickbait "cant believe this is a valid connection",
but tbh i cant believe what AA hotline is telling me.

LAS-LAX AA1945 arriving in LAX 9:20 am
LAX-JFK AA238 leaving LAX 10:00 (connection time 40 minutes) arriving in JFK 6:31 pm
JFK-LHR AA106 leaving JFK 7:25 (connection time: 54 minutes)

i thought, MCT in JFK is 1:15 from domestic to international?

am i missing something?

I thought MCT is 45 minutes? Looks like that 40 minute connection isn’t legal.

I thought so too, but EF shows mainline to mainline at LAX at 35 mins.

So from what I can tell, it is legal.

MCT domestic to domestic at LAX was 40 minutes last time I went through there a few months ago.

Following the holidays accompanied by resolutions focused on physical fitness it was adjusted to reflect the average faster walking pace of travelers.

It could be tighter - mainline to mainline at PHX is 25 minutes.

in this case i have to hope for the best? if i miss that connection it ruins my whole LAS-LAX-JFK-LHR-HEL-ARN itiniary

interesting that noone has a problem with that 54 minutes @ JFK. i thought this would be the much bigger problem...

No, the MCT for D-D at LAX is 35 mins as mentioned above. The MCT for D-I at JFK is 35-45 mins (EF isn't clear). Both of your connections are legal.

Domestic - International MCT at JFK is ~40 minutes, and 54 minutes is quite doable assuming you have a negligible delay. Terminal 8 is not too large.

I will say, this does seem like quite a convoluted itinerary. Be on the lookout for schedule changes that would let you get a more simple one (if you want).

With AA’s padding 40 MCT is probably doable

They're both legal. So I'd call back and find a different agent.

Now, are you doing a mileage run? I get the LAS backtracking to get a 321T, but why the stop at HEL? Is it for the a359 on AY?

I hear those whispers: "There's been a change in your trip... There's been a change in your trip...There's been a change in your trip..."

this is the outcome of a previous schedule change... the former itiniary was quite comfortable...

Just because your connections are still legal doesn't mean you can't call AA and request something better if this was the result of schedule changes.

We have comprehensive threads for each of the major hubs where questions about MCT have been addressed.

LAX: GUIDE: LAX / Los Angeles International Airport - MCT, Connection, etc.
JFK: AA Guide: JFK / New York J F Kennedy International Airport - MCT, Connection, etc

The Wikipost at the top of each has a great summary.

It has to be, as AA operates out of just one terminal at JFK (T8).
