Don't waste your miles for a domestic trip. Domestic Y and F are relatively CHEAP these days. Check it out you'll see.

Yes, dates needed.

I just booked three one way premium transatlantic flights for 20,000 miles each SFO JFK in 5/21.

Since when do you cross the atlantic when flying between SFO & JFK?

because op is a BOSS. only flies the long way around the world for max premium comfort time.

Love it. They must have taken all the seats on the RTW routing because all I could find left on 5/21 for 20K miles was a ~7am nonstop SFO-JFK (which seems like a good redemption opportunity!)

Web Special Awards now even more dynamic - different prices for One-Way vs Round Trip

This is a new one for me, and I’ve not seen mentioned elsewhere. AA web special award pricing now depends on whether you are traveling one-way or round trip.

Example:
ORD-LHR for 2 pax on 5/18/22. Business class web special on AA 806 prices at 84k per person.
When searched as a round trip, outbound on 5/18 and returning on 5/25, the outbound leg on AA 806 prices at 69.5k per person.

So the one-way is pricing higher than the same exact flight on a half-round-trip basis. This is feeling more and more like Delta award pricing every day. For those of you who say award charts are unimportant, 400k one-way business class TATL awards are here now too.

This is also a big devaluation for anyone that booked multiple one-way awards instead of round trip/multi-city to have the greatest flexibility in tweaking/making changes to one part of the trip as award inventory changes over time.

(And no, for those of you looking at the time stamps of my screenshots, it’s not because inventory is tied up by the round trip. I searched the one-way first, then the round trip, and repeated several times with the same results.)

This has been true for a while.

AA charging more for one ways

I am new to aa, Does aa charge more miles for one ways? looking at ord-lhr its 77 one way and 66 one way back, but combined its 122.5

Variable pricing for awards is not new, but it should only apply to AA flights, not partners....yet.

JJeffrey Aug 10, 2021 6:32 pm

Yes, there were some reports of this a while back, for web special awards the pricing can be different/lower if booking a roundtrip compared to the separate one-way web special pricing.

Merged with an existing thread on the topic of dynamic AAward pricing. Thanks. :) /Moderator

This is related to paid, not award flights, but I happened to be searching for Dub-PHL. One-way coach was around $2200. Round-trip was about $480 in main cabin and $370 in basic economy.

Business awards

Has American increased miles needed for business awards? I can’t seem to find any availability on AA app for many destinations. When I do, miles are outrageous like 390000 for business from ORD TO Buenos Aires. Those tickets used to be more like 120000 a couple of years ago. What happened? I am looking 11 months ahead.

Yes. All carriers have effectively devalued miles over the last few years.
