Pets? That’s a thing?

Will accounts be closed for lack of submitting Barclays applications regularly? I mean FAs have to run out of victims at some point, right?

I think I need some clarification on which of the following two scenarios are in the recent shutdowns:

1) I made some account for my twin brother, where my twin brother's name is very very similar to my own name, and used that mailer to get miles in my primary account (pet's account is always at zero miles)
2) I bought a mailer code off the marketplace or whatever, where the original code was tied to Mr. Rajesh Karowski, which is nothing like my real name

Seems like the rampant abuse situation around Citi/AAdv bonuses is even worse than I realized.

Do they receive income? (Like the animals who have portrayed Flipper, Benji, Scamp, Trigger)

SSN? Signature? If they are under 18 can they legally enter into a contract? Inquiring minds want to know.

I had a cat that lived to be 23. When he turned 21, we talked about taking him to a casino, since we was then of legal age. So, it's not beyond the possible that a pet could be old enough to enter into a contract.

They would be, of course, emotional support pets. Some of them have probably even flown in First.

Yeah, but ESAs don't pay, so can't earn miles from flying

This is not strictly correct. The standard Citi timeframe limiting signup bonuses within a card/family is 48/24 months, but this is enforced on the credit application level, not on the SSN level or on the AA side of things with the AAdvantage number. From time to time they send out targeted offers through various channels that do not have the 48/24 month restriction- often to people who already have cards. (See wiki and years of posts in the Citi ThankYou Rewards forum.) So it is more than possible to have 5 identical citi cards (and accompanying bonuses) for a single person on a single AAdvantage number.

That may have nothing to do with the situation we're talking about. But it's not as straightforward as chasing multiple bonuses = using/creating multiple AAdvantage accounts. Many (most?) churners for years have credited all miles to the same AAdvantage number.

The physical AA mailers that people were using were sent by Citi. The email mailers were sent by AA themself. Could that be the issue?

For anyone shutdown, did you use the email codes or just physical mailers?

JonNYC Any idea if there are more shutdowns slated? If so - will it be a considerable amount of shutdowns?

Thanks for your insight, btw.

If Jon's answer is yes, what specifically would you plan to do differently? I mean our "guest star" over the weekend clearly even had existing flights cancelled, so it's not like quickly booking tickets with ill gotten miles would protect them.

At this point, anyone that played the game this way should consider themselves at risk at anytime. Many in the "other thread" have enjoyed laughing and joking about "eleventy-seven miles per year" etc. full well knowing they were coloring quite outside the lines.

Choices have consequences...

Regards
