Concessions for EXP short fall?

I have been an EXP for several years now and am currently 9,500 miles short of re re-qualiflying. However, last month I was detetected with a Stage IV cancer and underwent an 18-hour surgery; Allthough I have tickets already in place for another 30K miles, the doctor has ruled out overseas travel before the end of the year. I s there any way AA may extend another year of EXP membership without having to pay the absurd amounts they usually want?

I think if the OP reaches out to the executive liaison via the website contact us form, they might have a shot.

I do too.

Success would depend on several factors (member profitability, # of previous elite exceptions if any, years at EP, etc,) but it can and does happen occasionally. Can also depend on amount of shortfall vs. remaining/missed portion of the year (in other words someone at this point in the year over 90K, etc.-- someone who was unambiguously on track but had major medical setback, etc)

Wish you a speedy recovery and good luck; as others have said, there is a chance, albeit uncommon.

And, of course, the offer of a re-attainment challenge at a convenient start date would be an even greater possibility.

Don't post your results, there will be thousands of potlickers ruining it for honest people.

The REAL answer is "Only AA knows, and the only way to find out is to ask."

I'd personally think that if there's any cause that would cause them to waive their policies, it would be this.

Here's hoping you not only get your status extended but are well enough to take many trips enjoying it.
