Split Existing Reservation
I currently have a reservation for 2 passengers on a round trip ticket, leaving Thursday, returning Friday. Now I need to arrive a day earlier on Wednesday, while my other passenger does not need to make a change. We both will return on Friday as planned. Are we able to change my departing flight (with applicable fees) and leave the rest of the reservation, including the other passenger intact?

My guess (and it's only a guess) is AA can cancel your segments in the current PNR, create a new PNR for you, and apply the value of your unused ticket (less change fee) to your new itinerary.

your ticket will be split off - but not cancelled - into a separate PNR after which you can so with it what you will - within the fare rules of course,
Your companions will remain as is. They can't just split off your outbound leaving the return in the same PNR as your companion though. |
Splitting a PNR is easy and happens for all manner of reasons. A non-issue.
Every passenger has his own e-ticket. |
