Arrow Domestic First Rebranded Business o/a Sep 2019

I logged into AA.COM to change my meal order and found the following in my "first-class" domestic itinerary: This is for my flight next Saturday on the 28th. The connecting flight also says "business." This is for an "I" fare roundtrip ticket where the original itinerary in my email shows "First Class" by the "Traveller information" chart that comes with the email:

Here's what it looked like in my original emailed itinerary:

So I had them email me another itinerary, an here's what showed up:

So are domestic USA flights now marketing I/D/R/J fares as "business" instead of "first?"

Anyone have the scoop on this?

Yes, domestic First class has technically booked into business fare buckets since 2016. It appears AA has started actually calling it business class lately...

Hold email discrepancy: Business vs. First

Yes, but I don't believe that is OP's question. Even looking at an existing PNR of mine (INTL Business/First "I and A" with all domestic in "I") I now see domestic first segments BRANDED as "Business" - no longer First. (The only First now is the 3-class INTL A segment.) A happy change for consistency IMHO - Business bucket = Business branding. (But probably an I.T. error!!!! )

didn't answer " Domestic First now called Business?", then what is the answer? Or the question?

I read the quoted links. The second spoke of the some-time ago change in class, not branding. I didn't see how the first applied when I read it. IMHO, this is a significant change in AA marketing direction that I had not read about before - any more than the OP. Although perhaps there was something in one of the quoted threads. But the response I quoted did not seem to take into account the difference between booked class and branding, and I wanted to reemphasis it.

I thought they had changed it to "Not Available". That's usually what I see in the right hand column.

Same here. I had an original e-mail with two domestic segments listed as First (I) but aa.com now shows Business (I). I think this makes a lot of sense because comfy seat with more leg room are now getting an "oasis" refresh and the former AA meals in F have been replaced long time ago with a school cafeteria offerings. One should have a nerve to call it "First". It is more like Business or may be "Premium Economy Pro".

Calling USA domestic flights business is what other world airlines flying regional - short haul routes would call such a seat.
But not like long haul international flights, so same as other airlines

So, yes.

I booked my FC ticket to Chicago about a month ago. Original booking email indicates First (J).

Online now says Business (J).

YMMV

Interesting. I was originally asking because I hadn't heard anything about a rebranding of domestic "premium class" seating, whatever we can call it...

I thought it might be some sort of IT glitch since nothing was publicized recently. Always some funky IT things going around.

My upcoming domestic reservation has also switched from First to Business. I think that makes a lot more sense.

I noticed this a few days ago as well, the search page still called it first, but when I booked it the class changed to Business, 763 JFK-MIA.

Noticed this change as well. Additionally, all of my re-classified domestic F to J class tickets are offering me the chance to upgrade to First (on two class aircraft) for X amount of dollars #goingforgreAAt

Domestic First Itinerary Shows Business Class?

I have D class outbound and I class inbound flights booked on American, domestic flights. Obviously, I am going to be seated at the front where I want. haha, so it isn't an issue.

However, when I check my itinerary online, I was selecting my meals, it calls this Business Class. Is it is a weird glitch or are they going to rename domestic first to business? It showed up as First until I got within the 30 window to select meals.

Thanks.

Question

Thread title says "Domestic First Rebranded Business o/a Sep 2019"
Are we sure this is the case? (sensible as it might be.)
