AA9200 LAX-PHL August 16th. What's going on?

Six friends are scheduled to fly tomorrow PHL-DUB on AA722 which is currently scheduled to be flown on N283AY.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n283ay

It's been on the ground at LAX since the 13th, was scheduled to fly revenue flights back to PHL on the 14th and then the 15th, and cancelled both times. It's scheduled to fly to PHL tomorrow as AA9200, apparently with no passengers. Mechanical issue? Crew availability?

AA also suddenly went from selling numerous seats on 722 early this morning to zeroing out all classes late this morning. Planning for IRROPS/Cancellation?

I could understand AA CXing the LAX-PHL flight, if the plane went MX badly. But it shouldnt affect PHL-DUB since they could sub any ETOPS for that. Kind of lost why they didnt fly something in from say PHX to do the LAX-PHL-LAX runs

Likely MX. I cannot imagine they'd leave an aircraft on the ground that long, especially with their limited fleet slack due to any other reason.

I wouldn't read to much into the assigned plane at this point. They can and do frequently swap them out day of, including within hours of departures. They also tend to avoid cancelling TATL flights if they can, since the cancelled flight in the opposite direction is going to cost them additional in terms of EU compensation. As you've noted, AA1799 has been cancelled the past couple days meaning each day they've been short an A332 in PHL, but have still managed to operate AA722 on those days. This mean they've still had a plane to fill in for the PHL-DUB segment. It looks like on Wednesday they even subbed a A333 in place of the A332; I would think it's more likely everything is zero'd out in anticipation of a potential equipment swap rather than a cancellation.

And just like that the DUB flight will now be using an aircraft currently in the air headed to PHL from BCN. ^

Still curious about the status of N283AY though...

Seems like they've swapped the tail again to N271AY...a 333 with 8 extra J seats but no W cabin. Wonder how they will handle this if the tail assignment sticks: will 8 lucky W pax be bumped into J and the rest downgraded/reaccommodated, or will all W pax be downgraded and the upgrade list run for just Y-J movements?

The DUB flight went out with an A330-300. Word is that there were only about 12 pax in biz class and they downgraded a full 21 pax PE cabin to Y.
