Three free checked bags?

i was checking in this morning at the kiosk at EWR for my flight to ORD in Econ when I noticed that AA was offering the third bag free.

Anyone know a reason why?

I have plat status so I get two bags, and a bunch of the AA cards.

Would anticipation for bad weather cause it? I know AA was offering travel waivers in anticipation for bad weather later today.

Thanks!

No idea, maybe just a glitch of some sort, but a weather waiver and/or anticipation of bad weather should have nothing to do with your baggage allowance.

So, a 50 percent greater chance of losing at least 1

I wonder if this was to encourage people to check bags due to very full planes.

Prolly not worth a thread...but...

I was relocating my office from DEN to SMF. Connecting in PHX. Friday afternoon flight. Supposed to arrive SMF at 7PM

Was checking 3 'bags'...super unusual, like first checked bag in a year or more. Two massive rolling Pelican cases and a box that was 24x24x14 (=62) and 69.2 lbs.

EXP check in not a hitch, just pleasantries. Get out to the gate...and my flight DEN-PHX is delayed by 5 hrs due to crew.

Change to later flight to PHX...file a BCO (bag change order) with the gate agent, she says 'should be good'. I say 'no big deal, just stuff- fine if they deliver sometime next week'.

That later flight gets delayed. Change to DEN-DFW-SMF. Another BCO. The DEN-DFW gets delayed. Put me on a later connect in DFW, but *it* gets delayed. Change DEN-LAX-SMF (exp status was able to force availabiluity). Another BCO.

When I was enroute the app shows one bag loaded to DFW, no other actions.

Arrive SMF.. just after midnight..

with all three bags.

(all with love notes from TSA...)

As someone who gets "randomly selected" a lot, I get one every single trip.

I remember when AA domestic F had 3 checked bags. And then a 4th for EXP.

Moved my sister from one coast to the other entirely by aircraft with 7 boxes.
