Just made EXP / Executive Platinum! Resources, ask questions, brag (2019+)

First, a hearty welcome to Executive Platinum status!

New Executive Platinum members, whether "self-made", via your Concierge Key nomination or made by AA offers, including challenges, to similar status holders from competing airlines, often have questions about how the program works.

Feel free to post your questions here, but also be aware many of your questions about American Airlines, AAdvantage and Executive Platinum status can be answered in these resources:

Qualified 12/5, 17k spend, 99k miles, 120 segments.

I was exp for 12-13 years, then flying slowed way, way down.

Today I was grateful for the opportunity to use the biggest EXP benefit of all, the EXP desk who quickly sorted out a few things coming in the future, I deeply appreciate those folks!

Actually qualified back in July. Of the 25 segments I think 6 was on AA metal. Mostly JAL and some CX. All travel between JFK and HKG.
While SWU is a nice way to upgrade to F and enjoy FFD, I don't fly enough on AA metal to take advantage of it so I'll probably end up taking the bonus miles

Just made EXP for the first time today. Earned mostly via weekly LGA - DFW and then LGA - RDU the past month. I have had 100% upgrades to first on the LGA - RDU route as a PP.
Currently at

17.6k EQD
100,140 EQM
75 EQS

looking forward to seeing what EXP has to offer.

I just got awarded EXP for 2020 because of my Hyatt Globalist status. A total shock, as I have probably not had a paid/miles AA flight in 5-6 years, only Avios redemptions every few months.

My biggest point of confusion revolves around purchasing Basic Economy fares as an EXP. It appears that some of the restrictions are waived for EXP but not others.

In a nutshell, under what circumstances should an EXP buy Basic Economy, and when should he not? Thanks.

Given that the primary restrictions on AA basic economy when you have status are no seat selection, no upgrades, and no changes, I'd suggest only buying basic economy if the following conditions are met:

1. You know that your plans will not change, including not wanting to do a same-day flight change to get home earlier.
2. You don't care about getting an upgrade.
3. You are comfortable in a middle seat, or are flying on an E190 or regional jet with no middle seats.

Thanks. No difference in baggage allowance, domestic or international, if you buy Basic Economy vs Regular?

Thinking of bring back 3x70 pounds of beer from BRU.

First time making EXP, and probably the last time as well. EQD is hard to come by...

Morning/evening....
just wondering... My wife is currently at 156K on miles with 14K in spend, which with a trip,
she will make EXP...
does she still get the gifts at the 150K level after she qualifies...

Thanks in advance

I might be wrong but I am sure she will get to choose the 3 gifts on offer for exceeding 150K EQM.

finally... first time EXP

Been playing the miles game with work trave the past few years never managed to hit PPRO. Got the form filed so I can book business class and it's like getting cheat codes to your favorite game. You still enjoy playing it, but it's not challenging anymore.

EQD: 25K
EQM: 113K
EQS: 39

(yes, EQD is a bit high proportionally... there was a last minute transatlantic in there)

Yes the award is being one notch up from the most spendy platinum pro on the list.
