Just to confirm, what happens to the snack items at the end of a day? Does catering reuse unopened/shelf stable items?

To each their own.

I’m more concerned about award travel availability and forthcoming TOD’s. These are more significant issues to me vs a rogue flight attendant putting jerky in her purse.

I believe catering is allowed to reset snack baskets domestically adding missing items and wrap for next use.

Almost all my flights have the famous remove label from the water bottle and take by FAs.

Although, if AA wanted to better track drinks, it would do so for the MCE service too. So, AA has determined that is not worth the service hassle. Only food BOB (free or not) has consistent tracking. That appears to be for forecasting demand which is good.

I don't think the snacks & soda are tracked, just replaced when they are gone. Does anyone know if alcohol is accounted for? I remember a WN flight where the FA before beverage service took out almost something like a briefcase that was filled with mini's.

I rarely like to post, but this thread really bothers me. I was a flight attendant in the 80's and 90's and many of nights I dumped snacks, water, juice or soda in to my bag. Often you would arrive at a hotel near midnight and everything is closed. You just finished six or more legs on a DC9 or F100, and my personal favorite, the F28, running behind schedule all day with no time to run into the concourse to buy a meal. I spent many a nights eating my hearts content of pretzels, peanuts, cashews and granola bars. Also. flight attendants get paid twice a month and sometimes money gets tight at times. But, what it really comes down to is just mind your own business.

I don't have enough money either, can I steal some stuff from you? I mean, really you should just mind your own business and let me do it.

That is theft. It is different if it is food on an international flight that must be thrown away after the flight.

I don't think these things are mutually exclusive.

Wow, really, theft is excusable because it is none of our business?
You make it look like the people doing the wrong thing are those who report theft, rather than the people who are doing the stealing.

Sorry, but this is nonsense. If getting paid biweekly doesn't work for your personal budget and cash management, you're obviously in the wrong job with the wrong employer. But that doesn't give you the right to steal. Arrive late at a hotel and everything's closed? Take it up with your union rep and negotiate for better arrangements. Doesn't give you the right to steal.

I'd be surprised if AA's cost for snack baskets are north of $5. I'm not say the amount justifies stealing, especially since many us appreciate small bags of pretzels after a day of meetings, but this issue seems a bit trivial to me.

I don’t know if there are catering stations set up to recapture the sealed items out of the trash stream or not (there may be), but AA is billed for the wrapped set of items for each flight the same way regardless of what was reused. They aren’t billed on consumption for replacement of the snack basket items the way beverages are. Once upon a time pre-HP US provisioned it’s own snacks in most stations and maintained a rolling inventory onboard, but they moved to this modern when Hector Adler took over.

If the items are getting trashed or aren’t billed on consumption (or in the case of the water are contractual), and the pax are done with them, I’m fine with the FA’s eating or taking them.
