I have a flight in May that will resolve the EQDs but that's after the deadline.

Can you get a physical AAdvantage elite status card that reflects Gold/Platinum status while you are in interim Gold/Platinum status through the status challenge ?

I doubt it, given the fulfillment company that issues cards often takes several weeks to issue a card.

But the interim status should show in the app and a screen shot of your aa.com account page if you need to demonstrate your status for any purpose where it won't suffice internally to AA.

Do you need to have status on another airline in order to sign up for an AA Status Challenge?
I also have no status with AA right now. AA send me an email a couple of weeks ago, offering gold status for $649.

Today, another email arrived and offer gold status for $549. If I wait a few more weeks, will that offer go down to $100?

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

Please read the Wikipost at the top of the page for a summary of requirements. You do not hold to have status to sign up for a challenge.

If you ask to have the start back dated (I think it is up to two weeks).

Please confine your challenge questions to the Challenge thread, where you have been directed previously. Much of what you have asked is answered in the Wikipost at the top of the page. The Wikipost is rendered at the top of each page in this thread and can be recognized by its larger font title:

HELP DESK & FAQ: AAdvantage Elite Status Challenge (Gold and Platinum)
The 2017 AAdvantage Gold and Elite status challenges supersede the 2016 Challenge, now obsolete.

Please read before asking questions.

Where you reside or whether you have another airline's status doesn't matter forvthe AA status challenge.

As indicated in the Wikipost at the top of the page, requirements (EQM and EQD) are:

Q. What are the requirements for successfully completing a Challenge?
[INDENT][LIST][*]Gold status: Earn 7,000 Elite Qualifying Miles / EQM
OR fly 8 Elite Qualifying Segments / EQS
AND earn $1,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars / EQD
within a three month period
AND pay a non-refundable fee of ($100 or $120, to be verified)
  • Gold challenge with bump to interim Gold status: $300
See the "What are AA Gold / GLD benefits? Are they worth it?" thread here.
[*]Platinum status: Earn 12,500 Elite Qualifying Miles / EQM
OR fly 16 Elite Qualifying Segments in three consecutive months
AND earn $2,000 in Elite Qualifying Dollars
within a three month period
AND pay a non-refundable fee:
  • Platinum Challenge with no bump in status while on the challenge = $200
  • Platinum Challenge with interim Gold status during the challenge = $400
  • Platinum Challenge with interim Platinum status during the challenge = $500
See the "What are AA Platinum / PLAT benefits? Are they worth it?" thread here.
