Earning Elite Qualifying Miles and Dollars, and Award Miles Flying on Qatar Airways link to page on aa.com

To earn AAdvantage miles when you fly on Qatar Airways marketed and operated flights as well as Qatar Airways codeshare flights operated by oneworld carriers and affiliates:
  • Buy an eligible published fare ticket in an eligible booking code
  • Fly an eligible route
On most flights marketed by partner airlines, you earn award miles based on a percentage of the flight distance and the fare class of your ticket. Specific flights, routes or cities that are excluded from earning miles or award travel are listed as exceptions if applicable.

AFFILIATE AIRLINES (none)

Qatar Airways marketed (codeshare) flights must be operated by a oneworld or affiliate airline to earn AAdvantage miles. The ticketing or selling carrier or agent is immaterial to earnings.

Miles and other earnings may take a week or longer, and in some reported instances have not posted at all without intervention.

It is always advised to try to assure your AA Frequent Flyer Number is on your boarding passes, and we always advise retaining your boarding passes (or take screen shots of e-boarding passes) until your earnings have all posted.

The lowest economy booking classes only 25% base miles, 50% EQMs, and 5% EQDs. You can look at the earnings table at aa.com, AAdvantage, Earn, Partner Airlines.

Just bumping this, taking another shot at my question in #88 above.

If ticketing IAD-JRO through aa.com, earing AA miles, how will the EQMs the calculated? The flights are AA8120 (IAD-DOH) and QR1499 (DOH-JRO). Both operated by QR, business class both flights, single ticket, first segment is AA codeshare.

Will the total EQMs be calculated 1) combination - the IAD-DOH flight under the AA chart as a codeshare and the connecting DOH-JRO flight under the QR chart? Or 2) both segments calculated under the AA chart, as purchasing as a single ticket under AA?

Thanks.

While I did not fly such a mixed ticked on QR, I did several "mixed" AA-BA-IB in the past. For those flights AA numbered flights were posted as AA (regardless whether AA metal or code share) and BA/IB ticked as flying BA or IR. The individual segments would always post separately. Moreover, I do not see anything in the program rules while credits should be posted differently.

Like all partner carriers, you need to figure out exactly what fare codes you're going to be booking, then cross reference that with the partner earning table at aa.com to see exactly how many EQMs and EQDs you'll earn.

Here is the QR earning page at aa.com as referenced above: https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/...ines/qatar.jsp

Thank you for all the replies.

I was looking at RJ also and noticed that the earning is pretty similar but the RJ ticket is way cheaper. The fare code is IRTEEUS.

Does this fall under I or R fare earning?

I. The first letter of the fare is the fare basis code.

I booked this summer on QR using my AA status. Got free seat selection also by entering my AA number into the flyer code. Also pulled in 38,000 EQM miles and $3000 EQM because of the mile policy.

Generally if booking in J - booking directly with QR (except for R class) results in better EQM/EQD for me from India-US-India on AA earnings..

You may be out of date on this, as QR have moved the Business Lite (or whatever) to booking code P. Not an AAer, so best to check it didnt end up with P and R with rubbish earnings or otherwise.

Trouble getting points from Qatar Airways ticket...

Back in September I flew DFW > DOH > KUL on a Qatar Airways ticket in Biz Class (C). My flight from DFW to DOH was on Qatar metal and from DOH to KUL I was on Malaysian Airlines. I used my AAdvantage number when booking the trip.

I received AA Loyalty points for the DFW to DOH trip but was told by American Advantage desk that Qatar declined my points request for DOH to KUL. Why is this? Trying to figure out why this would be as they're both One World partners and I was on a paid business class fare.

I'm trying to get an answer out of Qatar Airways but its quite difficult....any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone, first time posting! Quick question clarifying how many Loyalty Points I'm set to earn on my honeymoon this December to South Africa.

We'll likely fly the following segments for a price of ~$5900. I'm Gold on AA and my soon-to-be wife has no status (yet).

Flagship Business (code R): MIA-JFK-DOH on AA, DOH-JNB on QR
Flagship Business (code I): CPT-DOH on QR, DOH-JFK-MIA on AA

Will I earn the ~41,300 LP ($5900 * 7) even though the DOH-South Africa legs are on QR (marketed by AA)? Or will I earn a combo of standard-calculated LP for the AA flights from MIA to DOH and then separately earn for the miles on QR based on the published chart from AA?

Thanks for the insight! We'll be doing these flights regardless, but good for me to estimate my LPs as I try to squeeze out Platmium this year!

If the flights are all marketed by AA, then you will earn based purely on the fare, i.e. $5900 x 7 as you mentioned.

Quick question, newbie question. I have a QR round trip in Business coming up. The trip would get me Qatar Silver status, but I don't think that would be very useful to me as I probably will not fly Qatar again with the next year. Is it better for me to credit it to AA? Would a IAH - DOH - AMD RT in D fare be enough to get me lowest level elite on AA? Or do I have to have some segments on AA metal to qualify for any elite?

You can earn AA status without ever setting foot on any plane, AA or otherwise, all that matters is that you earn the requisite amount of Loyalty Points.

An IAH-DOH-AMD roundtrip in D would earn you the following LP's and miles on AA:

Base miles 100%: 18,766
Cabin Bonus 150%: 28,149
Total miles/LP: 46,915

It takes 40k LP for Gold, so that one trip would earn you Gold status on AA.

Thanks Jeffrey. I think earning the miles into AA would be the way to go then since I could at least get a years worth a free checked bag if I fly AA or AS, which is way more likely than me flying QR in the next year. Appreciate the quick response.
