The noises are AA battling its internal demons, it is a troubled airline after all...

I believe they are caused by their eternal internal conflict of wanting to help the customer but also rip them off at the same time...which produces the agonizing sounds you hear...

I haven't heard it. My most recent had the opposite, where the hold music faded out to almost imperceptible.

Funny that they use the US Airways music. Then again, maybe not so funny.....

I kind of miss the old USAir/USAirways Peruvian pipe music.

I heard that the screeching is the sound of the focus-group elites who were trying to book award tickets with the new dynamic pricing system...

At first I thought this was about screeching sounds in the hold - not while on hold.

Who else remembers the "barking dog" sounds of the Airbus jets?
