See LarryJ's post #18 . No doubt carriers have influence the regulation by arguing for operational exigencies. If you've never had anything mechanical breakdown I want your luck.

I'm not convinced that the passenger's story is being reported correctly. The report is that he was told that he was "randomly selected" but IDB procedures aren't random. Makes me wonder what else is not being accurately reported.

Agent also notated that passenger was VDB, so I don't trust anything the agent said.

Not sure why they'd lie. Agents don't care if it's an IDB vs. VDB.

I don't know what part of the reports to believe.

that's probably just a result of reporting choice of words. What they probably mean is that this person wasnt selected for any specific reason other than they were the bottom of the pecking order based on the airlines denied boarding policies in the CoC.

Of course, but it makes me question whether the rest of the report is more accurate.

The report was also that he received compensation in the form of a voucher which would suggest that the agent processed it as a VDB, not IDB. Was that accurately reported?

Anybody actually have booked group travel on AA? The problem with the story is that it does not quite shake hands with itself. Organized group on tickets purchased together, but PNR's not somehow linked so it was obvious they were all together and they were escorting minors? Or he was an add-on ticket?

The story is out on multiple media outlets and they are puzzled too. OK it may be on Republic not mainline AA, but there is no breathy PR apology? If true as asserted there was no choice involved PLEASE file a DOT complaint. But if there is a signed VDB voucher receipt. . .?
