Upfare / Buy Out from Basic Economy to Standard Y?

Hi,

my father took by mistake a Basic Y ticket. We would like to upgrade to standard Y. Is it possible?
Flight is ORD-LAX
Thanks

call reservations and ask them to upfare your ticket to regular Y. There should be no change fee, only fare difference

Might not be that easy, depending on when purchased:

So, isn't the only significant benefit for using a Buy Out on a domestic ticket, that one gets a seat assignment as the non-refundable BE portion of the new ticket remains non-refundable?

The most significant benefit is the fact that you can change flights after its been reissued. (At least, thats my conclusion, based on the new fare rules applying.)

Other than that, more EQMs and the possibility to upgrade.

@LY777 I assume it's outside the 24-hour window? Otherwise, just cancel and book again.

Im actually surprised at how non-onerous that is; hadnt realized that. I had expected the rules to be onerous, but that actually makes me more willing to buy a basic economy ticket. Instead, it sounds like if you decide you want a regular ticket, you just pay up to the current best available non basic fare on the same flights and then can change the ticket for the change fee like any other ticket. Not too bad.

Well, its not refundable, but it is apparently changeable.

See the "GONE NOW" portion. (For short-haul like the OP's itinerary)

Ah. Indeed, that policy is what I expect: make it so you really cant change a basic economy ticket.

That's just a link to twitter. It doesn't even show up for me on mobile.

I thought that FT rules required snippets / summaries to be copy-pasted in messages, rather than just links to external twitter feeds and blog posts, for obvious reasons. Doesn't that rule apply to everyone?
ijgordon and ashill like this.

A simple "thanks for all the AMAZING information you provide, Jon." will suffice.

Let the little people summarize the treasure-trove of unique, not-available-anywhere-else, intelligence I provide. I've got better things to do.

Or just live in ignorance, and revel in it. As you prefer.
Of course you are free to let incorrect information stand, but I think that if you are going to provide a link to an external source (particularly your own!!) you should provide a summary in accordance with the rules of the forum. Or, again, does that rule not apply to everyone? Serious question here.

As it is, you've provided me with no information at all (useful or otherwise).
