Flight [xx] Cancellation / Delay / Diversion etc. on [date] 2019 (consolidated)

I didn't see a 2019 thread and this one wasn't locked, so figured I'd post here.

Any idea why AA 5663 DCA-CLE was diverted to IAD on 10JAN19? Looks like the plane never got above 10,000 feet or 275 kts.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...020Z/KDCA/KIAD. Tail is N259PS.

EF indicates a mechanical issue. Just curious about the details.

Cheers,
LBBZman

Flight [xx] Cancellation / Delay / Diversion etc. on [date] 2020 (consolidated)

Hi all,

I saw the FR24 and I found out about AA FLT#692 has been delayed for nearly 24 hours. Is that mechanical problem? They didn't cancelled the flight yesterday. So they couldn't leaves from PHX for more than 24 hours.

Nice. 19 hour delay. Wonder if they made people stay in the airport all night.

Looks like the incoming A/C was from CLT and arrived about 9 hours late. Presumably, rather than have the flight arrive in the HNL middle of the night they decided to postpone the flight till the next morning, hence the 20 hour delay.

As for what caused the 9-hour delay to crew in CLT, anyone's guess is as good as mine but there were a LOT of canceled flights across the East coast on Sunday and Monday. With a lot of crew out of position and/or timed out due to delays, the number of people sitting short call reserve in CLT, either pilots or FAs, may not have been enough. Long call reserve has something like 12 hours notice to show up so theoretically if they realized they needed those folks 3 hours before the scheduled CLT-PHX flight, that would cause a 9 hour delay.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of it. I was stuck at Logan yesterday which was a mess after the storm over the weekend and severe cold (only one runway operating and the deicer trucks kept freezing). Most flights were delayed at least 7 hours. The eventual flight I got on to DCA had a ton of deadheads on it trying to get to other airports. It sounds like a lot of crew were out of place, and many had timed out as well or couldn't get to where they needed to be for flights.

How do you source this info? Is there a public website I can use?

Expert Flyer is my source.

AA's flight status info is pretty good in there. I recently had a colleague flying DL that had a delay and I couldn't see the reason in their flight status info at all, just times.

AA 5040 JFK-RDU today. We pushed back on time then taxied for 50 minutes. We were third in line to take off after getting through the massive queue when the Captain announced we had used so much fuel we were now below our minimum takeoff amount. We had to return to the gate for more fuel which took another 40 minutes. This was thoroughly unpleasant and seems to be like an avoidable problem.

I have a upcoming flight in 2 weeks flying ORD - MIA - CTG. I book purposely the first flight out of ORD with AA 1411 to have enough time to connect in MIA. I see that this flight is cancelled over the past couple of days. Any idea of the reason? Anything I can pro-activity do in case my flight is cancelled as well in 2 weeks?
