HND / Haneda slots: AA prelim gets DFW, LAX routes Summer 2020 (update)
Apologies if this was already posted, but I didn't see it:
Newsroom - American Airlines to Apply for Additional Service at Tokyo?s Haneda Airport - American Airlines Group, Inc.
Essentially, AA has applied for 4 daily flights to HND from the following airports at the following times:
Route/Departure Time/Arrival Time/Aircraft
DFW–HND 12:35 p.m. 3:55 p.m. 777-200
DFW–HND 3 p.m. 6:30 p.m. 777-200
LAS–HND 1:30 p.m. 5:25 p.m. 787-8
LAX–HND 12:40 a.m. 4:45 a.m. 787-8
LAS-HND is obviously the one that will get a lot of attention. Surely they've done their research and it shows a large number of Japanese pax connecting to Vegas.
Looking at the current schedule it appears that the first DFW-HND is a replacement of a current DFW-NRT flights while the second, along with the LAX-HND, are additional flights. However, if this was explicitly confirmed in the press release I missed it.

Sounds like the new LAX-HND would indeed be incremental. But those times and on a 787-8 instead of 77W? No thanks. I did not think LAX was going to be utilizing many 787-8s opposed to ORD, etc. Interesting for sure

American’s trans-Pacific gateways
American currently operates one daily flight between LAX and HND, which began in 2016. An additional flight from LAX would provide American’s customers with even more options and a convenient schedule between Tokyo and the airline’s West Coast hub.

Love to see the increase of flights to HND. Like to see either all 772's with retro J or 77W (I know, dream on) would be great. I wonder how this would impact oneworld's xONEx itinerary.

LAS - HND is very interesting and, as alluded to above, I'd be inclined to agree that it's because of the large number of passengers connecting to / from Tokyo. The early LAS - LAX flight is usually very busy with passengers connecting to onward flights to Asia.
This would presumably be AA's first international flight from Las Vegas?

agree. NRT is akin to IAD, a pain in the backside that we've been forced to deal with. HND is far more convenient. Heck, even when connecting, HND has potential to pop into Tokyo. Theres only so much NRT Sakura lounge until you feel trapped.

IMHO AA is very unlikely to secure 2nd LAX-HND frequency as UA applied for LAX-HND.
This really shows how weak AA is when it comes to Asia when comparing AA's proposed routes with UA and DL.
I am of the opinion AA should have tried to bid for either ORD-HND or PHL-HND as opposed to bidding for 2 DFW frequencies or LAS.
I think UA/DL will get the lion's share of the slots with AA and HA getting 1-2 each.

The 2155 HND departure flights and 0445 HND arrivals flights are great for connections in Asia with JAL. Quite a lot of JAL routes to prime destinations in Asia leaves from HND (TSA, HKG, CAN, PEK, SHA, GMP) in the morning and comes back in the evening.

I'm surprised these are the applications AA is filing. I'd be surprised if the DoT would allow a single carrier to hold two of these slot pairs from the same U.S. airport. I also wonder why they didn't apply for ORD-HND.

Could be - I was wondering if LAS would be similar to the RDU-LHR rotation. Not obvious how the LAX rotation fits in with the rest though - I was assuming these might slot in with an ORD rotation, but there doesn't seem to be one...?
