DYKWIA on AA Tales for 2019
Mods
Didn’t see anything for 2019 so thought I would post this.
BNA-DFW just now. Plane was about 20 minutes late getting to BNA. After boarding pilot comes in and makes announcement about a family that is escorting a relative that died in service of country. A person boarded with them in full dress uniform.
We we land at one of the outer runways at DFW so taxiing takes about 20 minutes. Pilot comes on and ask people to stay seated until family gets off. Took maybe 3-4 minutes.
I am getting off and a guy says to crew at door “thanks for making me an hour late”. They were shocked. Also I saw him go thru luggage so he wasn’t connecting.
FYI maybe 40 minutes late.

It sucks to be late but that guy was out of line. What that family is going through is far worse than missing ones favorite tv episode.

This isn't a DYKWIA incident. And how do you know that what was going on in the guy's life wasn't similarly compelling? And even if not...just who the hell are you to judge people?

Maybe this was the part he felt was the crew's fault? And the taxiing around part perhaps?
I wonder if asked he might say "oh, the staying seated part- yeah, not a problem it was only a few minutes- happy to honor the family- its just the rest of the screwing around by the crew that made up 40 minutes of my delay"
But digging into some moral outrage sure is more rewarding, eh?

Perhaps it was the credit-card pitch that set the guy off........

FWIW - It's like being delayed by a traffic accident when one is in a hurry to catch a plane - it's infuriating, but which of us would go over to the driver/s and say " Thank you for making me late" sometimes one's inconvenience pales before what others may be suffering. I just think that there for the grace of God go I.

I'm surprised at some of the responses on here. A guy issues a snarky remark at someone who played no part in the delay and doesn't give a vague/high level explanation suggesting how the delay impacted him e.g. family emergency. No need to go into details but he could have elaborated somewhat to demonstrate that his complaint had some validity (in his mind at least).
Who knows what the FA he directed the remark at were going through. Maybe she/he was on the brink of a nervous breakdown and his remark could have sent them over the edge. I'm all for not judging people but have no sympathy for him based on the OP's post. I would also concur with those who think that this is not a DYKWIA case.

I think making a comment to someone that has no control over an issue (FA) that can not be fixed
(flight already late) is plain stupid ! So this guy regardless of his personal situation making a
useless/unproductive comment is not very bright IMHO....

Regardless of the reason for the 43 minute delay, the fallen serviceman on board or his personal issues, there’s 0 point in making that comment to the FA.

The entirety of the OPs story is vague at best. The only mention of this guy being a DYKWIA is when he walks off the plane - presumably after waiting as asked by the pilot - and says "Thank for making me an hour late". As others have stated, that's not a DYKWIA.
To me, without further details, it's a guy who is pissed off he's late. OPs story has no mention that his frustration with being late is tied to the delay due to respecting the service person. In fact, OP says that the plane was already 20 minutes late into BNA. The fact is that this guy is upset that he is late and we don't know why. I'd never personally say anything to an FA who has little control (they do show up late to work too!) over whether a plane shows up on time but they do represent AA and like it or not they are going to get complaints and should just apologize and move on.

The issue is being a rude person to people who had no control of issue. I have heard people make comments like that before to crew and GA’s and never bothered me. However to choose THEN to do it at that time makes him an idiot. Also he was 3rd or 4th off the plane after the family.
