Non Hub City Pairs for Mainline American
What percentage of mainline American Flights do not start or end in a hub?

A very small one...

A few off the top of my head:

RDU-LHR
RDU-PIT
RDU-CUN
BOS-SYR
BOS-MDT
BOS-ROC
BOS-PUJ
BOS-CUN

I think the only mainline non seasonal non-Saturday only flight might now just be RDU-LHR.

In the past, there were still vestiges of point to point service at STL and PIT. I believe those are both gone.

Arguably LHR is a hub, given that aircraft might come in from RDU, depart to JFK, etc.

Its certainly a 1W hub, but not an AA hub. I'm guessing that LHR is AA's largest international destination by seat count, passenger count, and possibly even departure total (YYZ might beat it on departure total). I was tallying the numbers an I counted 21 AA non-stops during summer (JFK, CLT, RDU, PHL, MIA, ORD, PHX, DFW, LAX).

Yea I think the "hub" status comes less from the fact that it is a OW hub, but that it is the primary hub of the OW Transatlantic joint venture. All 21 of the AA flights you mention, plus all BA flights from the US to LHR, operate under the JV, with LHR as the major hub connecting those points in the US with cities in Europe, Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, etc.

Several of those flights are not "mainline" AA flights.

I'm sure we can quibble about the technical term "hub", but operationally it could be argued that it is AA's only non-US based hub. Aside from the number of US cities served to and from it, it has a Flagship Check-In, the only Flagship (First) Lounge outside the US, the only Arrivals Lounge, and even a dedicated lost luggage counter in arrivals.

This is the second (maybe third) debate over what constitutes a hub in a week.

Anyone know what AA's passenger totals are at LHR?

I flew BNA-CUN last year on a seasonal mainline flight.

The BNA-DCA exists, but is not a mainline flight.
