European award redemptions on AA metal gone for Thanksgiving

This time last year I was able to book multiple AA or IB choices for european destinations in saver J. There are none now--it's been yanked.

I don’t consider those “award” tickets.

This time last year my return TG flight LHR-JFK was heavily overbooked in Y so I suspect they think they will need those seats.

Thanksgiving is a long time away. The people who think that AA award availability is posted at 300+ days out and no more becomes available haven't been paying attention (nor using ExpertFlyer alerts intelligently).

Yeah I know how to use EF alerts just fine. If you read my post again you’ll see I said this time last year plenty of availability existed (and I booked a thanksgiving trip to Lhr and bcn) but none of that availability is there this year.

I’ve been monitoring November awards since last December and so far nothing has opened for France and Italy. I found space last year in May for November J SAAver awards to Italy. Maybe keep checking back for a few more months and something might appear. I share your pain.

I haven't been able to get anything to BKK tpac either for around Thanksgiving. First time in many many years that there hasn't been availability on any partners or AA.

It’s almost like AA is taking J seats out of their 787s...

Another thread about limited J Saver availability to Europe. This is known fact at this point. Let me know when it changes, then there will be something to discuss.

I would not even mind paying taxes and government fees, but we should not have to pay airline surcharges for awards
Airlines added them quite a bit when fuel prices went way up, then never removed them. The awards are supposed to be free.
Given the rate of some surcharges, I suspect sometimes the airline profits when you pay the surcharge, even on "free" tickets.
It's a bit like those "FREE" or low priced items we see advertised quite a bit, where the business actually profits off the shipping and handling charges

I completely agree.

115,000 miles+ $1000 BA surcharge is no award. It's a discounted J ticket + miles.

I like the BA surcharges, (go ahead flame me). That leaves a lot more inventory. I am more than willing to pay $500-$1000 surcharge for r/t in j or f. I did this last year to get r/t for this may iad/lnt in J with rterurn cdg/iad in f. YMMV.
